Role description
Role: Business Analyst
Location: Austin, TX (100% Onsite)
Duration: Long Term
Responsibilities
In person interview will be required
• Strategic Liaison and Translation
• Work with program areas, project sponsor and system SMEs to connect EIM cataloging and lineage systems to source systems in IT.
• Automate regular collection and updates to agency metadata for high value data assets.
• Explain technical findings and data limitations in simple, non-technical language to end-users.
• Data Reporting and Visualization
• Extract, integrate, and analyze metadata from multiple complex internal and external sources to support HHS program needs.
• Collaborate with end-users and performance analysts or IT internal leaders to create visualizations for enrichment progress and official reporting.
• Provide subject matter expertise on validating output from AI, particularly with respect to identifying and mitigating hallucinations.
• Ensure all data outputs adhere to agency reporting standards, data governance, and compliance regulations.
• Data Literacy and Training
• Champion data glossary literacy across the organization by developing and conducting training sessions for non-technical staff.
• Create clear, comprehensive documentation and tutorials on using glossary tools for data synthesis.
• Promote a data-driven culture by enabling and empowering all employees to effectively utilize metadata and AI.
• Collaboration and Problem-Solving
• Work closely with data engineering, IT, and Program teams to troubleshoot metadata-related issues and address inconsistencies and mitigation strategies.
• Provide expert guidance to program staff on interpreting data trends and answering complex data questions.
• Stay up to date on new AI and metadata analysis tools and techniques to continuously improve data glossaries, data quality and reporting.
• AI Prompting and Data Synthesis
• Develop and refine effective AI prompts and query strategies to retrieve and synthesize metadata accurately from complex data domains.
• Guide non-technical users in crafting precise prompts to get the glossary data they need, ensuring fidelity and accuracy.
• Develop a library of standardized prompts and query templates for common reporting needs.
Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience gathering business requirements and translating complex metadata acquisition and operational requirements into clear, actionable data access paths and business glossaries for advanced analytics initiatives.
• 8+ years of experience communicating technical findings, metadata insights, and data limitations to business users, stakeholders, and executive leadership in clear, non-technical language.
• 8+ years of experience in complex data analysis, senior business analysis, systems analysis, and/or data liaison roles supporting enterprise data and metadata management initiatives.
• 8+ years of experience using SQL for data extraction, transformation, manipulation, validation, and enrichment to support analytics and metadata management activities.
• 8+ years of experience collaborating with business users, performance analysts, and IT leadership to develop, validate, and maintain business glossaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage documentation for analytics development.
• 8+ years of experience demonstrating strong communication, presentation, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and interpersonal skills across business and technical teams.
• 5+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence (BI), Data Warehouse, and analytics platforms to support enterprise reporting and decision-making.
• 5+ years of experience serving as the primary point of contact for program staff and business stakeholders regarding metadata management, business glossary development, and analytics project requirements.
• 5+ years of experience working in Health & Human Services (HHS), healthcare, or other highly regulated environments with a strong understanding of agency metadata standards, compliance, and governance requirements.
• 5+ years of experience applying data governance, metadata governance, data stewardship, and data quality management principles to improve data consistency, usability, and trustworthiness.
• 5+ years of experience utilizing metadata and data glossary tools such as Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC), Informatica Axon Data Governance, or similar metadata management platforms.
• 2+ years of experience promoting data literacy initiatives and fostering a culture of data awareness and governance across the organization.
• 2+ years of experience training, mentoring, and coaching staff with varying levels of data literacy, metadata knowledge, and technical expertise.
• 1+ year of experience leveraging AI prompt engineering and prompt development techniques to support data governance, metadata management, analytics, and business process improvement initiatives.
