Business Intelligence Consultant

SENIOR BI DEVELOPER Position Overview Lead the design, development, and deployment of Power BI dashboards and reports for Sound Transit's Service Delivery operations. This role requires deep expertise in Power BI, data visualization, and analytics solution architecture to deliver actionable insights for service performance, ridership, safety, and customer experience metrics. • Need Transportation Exp OR Government Sector Experience. Project Details • Duration: 10-14 months (November 2025 - December 2026) • Work Location: Remote Key Responsibilities Power BI Development (50% of time) • Design and develop Power BI dashboards covering: • Create executive dashboards for board-level reporting • Build monthly business review templates • Develop federal reporting templates with automated data extraction • Design public-facing dashboards with accessibility compliance (WCAG, Section 508) • Implement advanced analytics including trend analysis and predictive insights • Optimize report performance and user experience DAX & Calculations (20% of time) • Develop complex DAX measures and calculated columns • Create time intelligence calculations for trend analysis • Build KPI logic aligned with business definitions • Optimize DAX for performance and maintainability • Implement row-level security where required • Document all calculation logic with business context Data Visualization & UX (15% of time) • Design intuitive, user-friendly dashboard layouts • Implement interactive filters and drill-through capabilities • Apply data visualization best practices • Ensure accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508) • Create consistent visual standards across reporting suite • Design for both desktop and mobile experiences Documentation (15% of time) • Document data models, DAX calculations, and transformation logic • Create technical specifications and architecture diagrams • Write user guides and administrator documentation • Maintain version-controlled documentation repository • Annotate complex calculations with business logic explanations Required Qualifications Experience: • 7+ years in Business Intelligence development • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development (required) • Expert-level DAX proficiency with complex calculations • Experience with large-scale enterprise BI implementations • Background in transportation, operations, or public sector analytics preferred Technical Skills: • Expert: Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M) • Proficient: Data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema) • Proficient: Data visualization and UX design principles • Working knowledge: SQL for data validation • Familiar with: Azure ecosystem, data governance frameworks • Accessibility standards implementation (WCAG, Section 508) • Performance tuning and optimization techniques • Version control (Git) for BI artifacts Certifications (Preferred): • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate • Other relevant Microsoft BI certifications
