Role description
Tableau Developer role - W2 or independent contractors (no 3rd party inquiries)

We are seeking a Tableau Developer who excels not only in building high-quality dashboards, but also in working directly with business managers and stakeholders to gather requirements, understand reporting needs, and translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on development and being embedded with the business.
Responsibilities
• Partner directly with managers and functional stakeholders (HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, Regulatory, Clinical, etc.) to gather reporting requirements, clarify KPIs, and define dashboard use cases.
• Translate business needs into technical specifications, wireframes, and Tableau designs.
• Develop high-quality dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Cloud.
• Prepare, optimize, and validate data sources (DB2, Databricks, SQL Server, or other platforms).
• Write complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures needed for reporting.
• Ensure dashboard performance optimization, including extract tuning and workbook efficiency.
• Maintain version control, documentation, and dashboard standards.
• Support QA, user acceptance testing, and iterative refinement with end users.
• Work cross-functionally with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure data quality and availability.
• Provide light Tableau Server administration support (publishing, permissions, scheduling) as needed.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience as a Tableau Developer or BI Developer.
• Strong experience gathering requirements and translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical managers and senior leaders.
• Proficiency with Tableau Desktop; experience with Tableau Server or Cloud strongly preferred.
• Strong SQL skills (DB2, Databricks, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar).
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in HR, supply chain, operations, finance, or healthcare is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with data modeling, ETL concepts, or Alteryx is a bonus.
Soft Skills
• Strong business acumen
• Clear communicator with excellent listening skills
• Detail-oriented and self-directed
• Comfortable interacting with managers, directors, and SMEs
