Role description
Business Intelligence Manager
6-month contract-to-hire
Chicago, IL
Role Mission
Lead the transformation of Business Intelligence into an AI-driven, augmented analytics ecosystem. This role combines strategic vision, technical depth, and hands-on leadership to evolve our BI landscape with advanced AI capabilities, robust governance, and scalable data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.
• Shape the enterprise analytics strategy at a global scale by infusing BI with production-grade AI.
• Lead a high-performing team operating cross-functionally in an agile manner.
• Build durable data and AI foundations on Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Synapse) and Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, Feature Store, Model Serving).
Outcomes/Success Criteria
• AI-Enabled BI Roadmap: Define and deliver a multi-year roadmap that prioritizes high-value, decision-driving augmented analytics use cases (forecasting, anomalies, optimization, natural-language insights).
• Standard Views & Semantic Foundation: Replace one-off dashboard builds with certified, reusable standard views and a governed semantic layer that answers most recurring business questions consistently.
• Natural-Language Insight Experience: Enable “ask the data” Q&A, AI-generated narratives, and guided exploration directly in Power BI so users can self-serve answers faster.
• Insight Productization: Turn stakeholder questions into repeatable analytics products with clear owners, actions, and expected impact.
• Insight-to-Action Operating Rhythm: Implement a cadence (weekly/monthly) where insights lead to documented actions, follow-up measurement, and continuous refinement based on outcomes.
• Trust & Responsible AI: Ensure AI outputs are explainable and reliable with clear KPI definitions, driver context, confidence/traceability cues, and human-in-the-loop guardrails.
• Governance That Accelerates: Stand up lightweight governance (certified datasets, glossary, ownership, access controls, quality standards) that increases speed without slowing teams down.
• Adoption & Enablement: Drive adoption via training, playbooks, embedded help, and a champions network, measured by active usage and reduced ad-hoc requests.
• Value Measurement: Publish quarterly impact reviews tied to KPIs like time-to-insight, self-serve rate, adoption/retention, decision velocity, and attributable business outcomes.
Team & Stakeholder Management
• Lead a team of BI/AI engineers and analysts—set objectives, mentor, conduct check-ins, and clear roadblocks.
• Manage internal and external stakeholders across markets and functions; translate complex AI topics into clear business narratives.
Qualifications & Experience
• 7–10+ years in Business Intelligence/Analytics with 3–5+ years delivering production AI/ML solutions.
• Hands-on expertise in Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Synapse) and Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, Feature Store, Model Serving).
• Strong Power BI experience (data modeling, DAX, governance, performance tuning).
• Experience with Python/SQL, notebooks, and distributed compute; familiarity with Azure AI services preferred.
• Knowledge of Responsible AI, privacy, and compliance
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required; Master’s in AI, Data Science, or Analytics preferred.
• Agile delivery experience and strong stakeholder communication skills
• Competencies – Organizational, Role Specific & Leadership
