Role description
Position Title: Senior Cloud Engineer Location: Omaha, NE Period: 6 months (fixed) Key Responsibilities β€’ Assess the current AWS infrastructure, specifically EKS and Istio service mesh architecture, to identify resilience gaps. β€’ Optimize EKS and Istio configurations to strengthen reliability, bolster security, and improve traffic control. β€’ Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform for consistent, reliable, and repeatable AWS deployments. β€’ Plan, implement, and manage Karpenter-based auto scaling for cost efficiency and enhanced resilience of Amazon EKS workloads. β€’ Enhance EKS configuration to enable Automode, simplifying cluster operations. β€’ Implement certificate management and automation processes to streamline rotation and minimize operational risk. β€’ Configure and deploy AWS Resilience Hub to continuously validate the resilience posture of the platform. β€’ Improve observability using AWS CloudWatch and Dynatrace for proactive monitoring and logging to detect and resolve reliability issues. Required Skills & Experience β€’ 8+ years’ experience in cloud infrastructure, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in AWS/EKS. β€’ Extensive knowledge of AWS infrastructure services, including Resilience Hub, Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing (ALB/NLB), Route 53, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, S3, RDS, VPC endpoints, and other AWS services supporting Amazon EKS. β€’ Deep expertise in Amazon EKS (architecture, scaling, security, Auto-mode, Karpenter). β€’ Experience designing and managing GitOps deployments with Argo CD. β€’ Proven proficiency with Istio Service Mesh (ingress, egress, traffic routing, mTLS, policies). β€’ Strong understanding of resilience engineering concepts (high availability, disaster recovery, fault tolerance). β€’ Proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform. β€’ Knowledgeable about monitoring and observability stacks, especially Dynatrace. β€’ Hands-on experience with CI/CD implementation using GitLab. Preferred Qualifications β€’ Prior experience working in regulated industries (banking, finance, insurance). β€’ AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent certification. β€’ Kubernetes Certified Administrator (CKA) or Service Mesh certifications.
