Role description
Job Title: Senior Cognos Engineer Location: Hybrid – New Jersey Job Type: W2 Job Description: Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Cognos Engineer with a strong background in IBM Cognos Analytics administration and support, including hands-on experience with version upgrades, system integration, and performance tuning in enterprise environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in Cognos architecture, OpenShift integration, and Oracle Exadata, with proven experience in managing user roles, permissions, and data source configurations. The ideal candidate will also have a good understanding of LDAP, and be Cognos certified. Key Responsibilities: Administer and support IBM Cognos Analytics environment on Linux. Lead the upgrade process from Cognos v11 to v12, ensuring minimal downtime and system integrity. Integrate Cognos with OpenShift container platform for modern cloud-native architecture support. Design and maintain robust Cognos architecture in line with enterprise standards and scalability requirements. Set up and manage users, groups, and roles, ensuring proper access control and role-based security. Configure folder structures and manage report-level permissions to enforce secure data access. Establish and maintain data source connections, especially with Oracle Exadata and other enterprise databases. Monitor system performance and capacity, identify bottlenecks, and provide troubleshooting and optimization. Perform regular software upgrades, apply fix packs, and manage overall environment lifecycle. Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Work closely with infrastructure, security, and BI teams to ensure compliance with organizational standards. Set up and maintain LDAP integration for user and group management within the Cognos platform. Required Skills: 11+ years of experience in Cognos Analytics administration and engineering. Strong experience with Cognos v11 and v12 in a Linux-based environment. Hands-on expertise in OpenShift integration with Cognos. In-depth knowledge of Cognos architecture and deployment models. Experience working with Oracle Exadata as a data source. Proficient in user/role management, permission setup, and security configurations. Strong understanding of system performance monitoring and capacity planning. Familiarity with software upgrade processes and fix pack installations. Experience working with LDAP for user and group management. Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
