Role description
Role: AI Engineer Industry: Commodity Trading Location: Remote (London) Rate: £700-800/d (inside IR35) Contract: 6 months rolling (multi-year scope) X4 Technology are partnered with a global commodity trading firm in central London to hire a contract AI Engineer. You’ll contribute to a major LNG transformation programme, unifying the portfolio into a single intelligent platform by integrating portfolio, contract, trading, fleet and cargo data. You will also develop an AI-powered chatbot to analyse and query legal documents, streamlining compliance and supporting smarter decision-making. Tech stack: • Core: Python, NumPy, Pandas, SQL, Git/GitHub • Integration & Deployment: Flask, FastAPI, MLflow, Triton, Hugging Face, OpenAI/Anthropic/Cohere/Mistral APIs, LangChain, LlamaIndex, FAISS/Weaviate/Pinecone/Qdrant • MLOps & Infrastructure: Model versioning, monitoring, logging, bias detection, explainability, LLM guardrails, Azure (nice-to-have) • Collaboration: Cross-functional teamwork, rapid prototyping, ML & LLM integration, prompt engineering • Evaluation: Perplexity, relevance, response quality, drift detection, A/B testing Requirements for the AI Engineer (Commodities Trading) The key requirement is for an AI Engineer with a strong Python background and demonstrable experience in LLM prompt engineering, Generative AI and Agentic AI. Experience in oil, gas, shipping, trading, or ETRM environments is highly desirable, as it provides valuable business context for understanding and leveraging the data effectively. Day rates are £700–800/d inside IR35 for an initial 6-month contract with multi-year scope (the project is currently budgeted through to the end of 2026 at earliest).
