Who Are We?
Clean Power Research® is advancing the energy transformation through cloud software that informs, streamlines and values energy-related decisions and processes for utilities, energy professionals and consumers.
We’re a growing company that counts 14 of the top 15 Fortune 500 utilities and many of the largest renewable energy companies in the U.S. as our customers. We’re focused on expanding our market reach and impact with new software technologies that help solve the energy industry’s hardest problems.
About the Engagement
Clean Power Research is seeking a Contract Product UX Designer with several years of professional experience to support the design and delivery of intuitive, data-driven experiences for complex cloud-based energy software used by utilities, energy agencies, and the solar industry.
This is a contract engagement, structured around clearly defined project deliverables and timelines. The contractor will partner closely with product managers and engineers to shape user experiences across the full product lifecycle, from discovery through high-fidelity design and validation.
This role is engaged as an independent contractor (1099). Contractors must be legally authorized to operate as a business in Washington State, including maintaining a current Washington State business license (UBI number) and compliance with applicable state and local tax requirements. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, and benefits.
Product Context
This engagement will primarily focus on PowerClerk®, Clean Power Research’s configurable, no-code workflow platform used by utilities and energy agencies to manage complex energy programs. PowerClerk streamlines application intake, review, approval, and ongoing program operations in a secure, enterprise-grade system.
The role may also contribute to projects across the SolarAnywhere® family of products, which support solar resource assessment, performance monitoring, and forecasting. These products serve a wide range of analytical and operational use cases, requiring clear, usable interfaces for technically complex data.
Scope of Work

Deliver high-quality designs for new features and refine existing experiences
Partner closely with multidisciplinary teams on the ideation and definition of new user experiences
Follow a user-centered design process, delivering design artifacts with an appropriate level of fidelity and detail at each stage
Contribute to a shared design system and help create component architecture documentation
Contribute innovative ideas and deliver groundbreaking designs that shape the future of our products
Transform complex concepts into engaging and intuitive user experiences
Who You Are
Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design or similar field
4+ years of experience in user experience design, with a strong emphasis on interaction design or similar role
Portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, including navigation, user flows, interaction design, information architecture, and information visualization
Clean, modern design aesthetic with strong attention to detail and a passion for simplifying complex experiences
Experience designing complex, data-centric web applications, with a strong understanding of how to make them intuitive and delightful
Fluency in UX best practices, including user-centered design, interaction design, and information architecture, grounded in strong UX principles and techniques
Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear user flows, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
Experience working across multiple levels of fidelity throughout the design process, from low-fidelity wireframes to pixel-perfect design specifications
Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, auto layout, and building and maintaining design libraries
Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage work independently against agreed timelines
Experience with planning and executing lightweight, rapid, iterative usability testing is a plus
Experience building and maintaining design systems is a plus
