Role: Senior Data Engineer (Databricks)
Project: Data Platform Transformation (Crude)
Industry: Energy Trading / Commodities
Location: London (hybrid 3 days per week)
Rate: £850-900/d (inside IR35)
Contract: 6 months initial (multiyear scope)
X4 Technology are partnered with a leading global energy organisation offering the opportunity for a contract Senior Data Engineer with deep Databricks expertise to play a key role in a large-scale data transformation programme within its Crude Trading business.
The successful candidate will join a strategic programme focused on modernising legacy platforms and establishing a Databricks-based data foundation to deliver a consistent, global view of trading data - improving quality, standardisation and accessibility across crude operations.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role focused on shaping data strategy, architecting end-to-end solutions on Databricks and driving engineering best practices across both data teams and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the Senior Data Engineer (Commodities)
• Design and deliver end-to-end scalable data platforms and solutions on Databricks
• Define and contribute to data strategy and long-term technology vision across the platform
• Lead hands-on delivery of complex data programmes using Databricks, Spark and SQL
• Oversee data ingestion, integration, modelling and transformation pipelines
• Drive data-driven thinking across technology and business stakeholders
• Ensure platform performance and scalability within Databricks environments
Requirements of the Senior Data Engineer (Commodities)
• Proven background designing and delivering end-to-end data platforms within commodities or energy trading environments
• Strong hands-on expertise in Databricks including Spark, SQL and modern pipeline design (eg Delta Lake / DLT patterns)
• Deep experience across data engineering disciplines including ELT, data modelling, integration and large-scale data processing
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
This is a high-impact multi-year programme, offering a competitive rate of £900/day (inside IR35), with interview slots available from week commencing 13th April.
