Role description
Job#: 3029048 Job Description: COTS Implementation Engineer Location: Falls Church, Virginia (Remote) Employment Type: Contract Role Overview We are seeking a Senior COTS Implementation Engineer / Deployment Systems Engineer to act as the bridge between Development and Operations in a large‑scale enterprise environment. This role serves as a gatekeeper of the Production environment, responsible for ensuring stable, secure, and high‑quality deployments of Commercial Off‑the‑Shelf (COTS) applications. The ideal candidate is a seasoned systems engineer who understands separation of duties, can read and troubleshoot code, manage application and web server environments, and prioritize production stability over rapid but risky releases. Key Responsibilities • Deploy, configure, and support COTS applications across Development, Test, and Production environments, ensuring clean, controlled, and auditable releases. • Act as the bridge between Development and Operations, reviewing deployments for stability, security, and readiness before promotion to Production. • Perform system administration and application deployment tasks across Linux/Unix and Windows environments. • Implement and support integration solutions, including REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, and iPaaS tools, to connect COTS platforms with legacy systems and databases. • Utilize scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar) to automate configuration, deployment, validation, and operational tasks. • Support multi‑tier application architectures, including application servers, web servers, databases, and load‑balanced environments. • Perform Tier 3 troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident support for deployment and integration issues. • Participate in data migration and validation activities during new implementations or system transitions. • Produce deployment documentation, system diagrams, runbooks, and operational handoff materials for ongoing support teams. • Collaborate with security stakeholders to ensure separation of duties, environment protection, certificate management, and access controls are maintained. Required Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, application deployment, COTS implementation, or a closely related role. Technical Skills: • Strong background in systems engineering, system administration, and networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, firewalls, connectivity). • Experience deploying and supporting COTS platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, HR, or enterprise business systems). • Hands‑on experience with application servers, web servers, and multi‑tier architectures. • Experience with API‑based integrations, middleware, and interfacing between enterprise systems. • Proficiency with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar) for deployment and configuration tasks. • Familiarity with databases and SQL (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) from a configuration and integration perspective. • Ability to read and troubleshoot application code or configuration artifacts to identify deployment or environment‑related issues. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical risks and tradeoffs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Clearance: The ability to obtain and maintain a DHS EOD clearance is required for this position. Preferred Qualifications • Experience supporting enterprise COTS platforms such as Salesforce, SAP, Oracle Applications, Workday, or Microsoft Dynamics. • Exposure to cloud, virtualization, or containerized environments (AWS, Azure, VMware, Docker, Kubernetes). • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub/GitLab). • Prior experience in federal or other highly regulated environments where production stability and compliance are critical. Compensation & Benefits The anticipated pay range for this position is $70.00/hr to $73.00/hr. A comprehensive benefits package is available to eligible employees.
