Job Title: Criminal Justice Data Scientist
Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland
Type: 12 month Contract with option to extend
Compensation: W-2 or C2C is negotiable

Scope of Work:
β’ The Criminal Justice Data Scientist will play a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making within the Local County Police Department.
β’ This position involves analyzing complex criminal justice datasets and applicable open-source data (census, demographic datasets, socio-economic calculations, etc.) to inform policy development, improve public safety outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.
β’ The position will support analysts and stakeholders in identifying, integrating, and displaying voluminous and disparate data to assist in answering stakeholder questions and needs, identifying trends and patterns, and conducting predictive analysis across a wide range of data types.
β’ The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in data science with a strong understanding of criminal justice systems and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Data Analysis & Modeling
β’ Conduct advanced statistical analyses to identify crime trends and evaluate risk factors.
β’ Conduct predictive modeling to forecast resource needs and identify potential crime hotspots or high-risk individuals.
β’ Assess program effectiveness and policy impact using evidence-based methodologies.
β’ Support agency-wide projects involving the management of large datasets for investigative support or analysis.
β’ Data Integration & Governance o Develop and maintain secure data pipelines integrating law enforcement, judicial, and corrections data.
β’ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local data privacy and security regulations (e.g., CJIS standards).
β’ Reporting & Visualization o Prepare clear, actionable reports and dashboards for agency leadership, policymakers, and stakeholders.
β’ Translate technical findings into accessible insights for non-technical audiences.
β’ Collaboration & Research o Partner with internal divisions, other government agencies, and research institutions on data initiatives.
β’ Contribute to grant proposals and federally funded research projects.
Qualifications
Technical Skills:
β’ Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools like Power BI.
β’ Experience with machine learning frameworks and statistical modeling.
β’ Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis is preferred.
Domain Knowledge:
β’ Strong understanding of criminal justice processes and government data standards.
β’ Experience handling sensitive or classified data in compliance with CJIS and FOIA guidelines.
Soft Skills:
β’ Excellent communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
β’ Ability to work collaboratively across departments and agencies.
Education:
β’ Baccalaureate, Masterβs or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience:
β’ At least three years of experience in data science, data analysis, intelligence, full-stack web development, or project management, preferably in a public safety or criminal justice setting.
