Role description
Peak Performers has partnered with a Texas State Agency to assist in their search for a remote Data Analyst . In this contract position, you will be responsible for perform highly advanced (senior-level) data analysis and documentation supporting the agencyβs Technology Modernization initiatives (including Mainframe Transformation and LoneSTAR).
Major duties
β’ Profile and map data, document source-to-target (S2T) transformations, analyze data defects, define data quality controls, and create dataflow/lineage documentation across SQL Server, Oracle, and mainframe/legacy sources.
β’ Collaborate with product owners, SMEs, DBAs, ETL engineers (SSIS/ADF/Informatica), and reporting teams (Power BI/SSRS) to translate business needs into clear requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
β’ Perform data analysis and documentation to support projects including SaaS/COTS implementations, mainframe data migrations, and Data Warehouse development.
β’ Assess and improve mainframe transformation processes, ensuring deliverables and documentation align with established standards and procedures.
β’ Assign and track work of team members or independently complete project deliverables as needed.
What are we looking for?
β’ Bachelorβs Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
β’ 10+ years of business analysis experience with a focus on data modeling and data flow for software development projects.
β’ Strong interpersonal, collaborative, analytical, written/verbal/ presentation communication skills (specifically technical writing); and well-versed with MS Office suite of products and prototyping/screen mock-up tools such as Visio and SnagIt.
β’ Hands-on requirements elicitation; client management and technical documentation including traceability, use cases, prototyping, and data modeling.
β’ Facilitating analysis of business and functional requirements and design of technology specifications, working with business / functional personnel.
β’ Experience working with ETL/ELT teams and artifacts (SSIS, ADF, and/or Informatica): reading/writing S2T specs, documenting transformations, validating loads.
β’ Strong analysis experience and expertise in assessing Production Support issues related to system and/or data bridges to determine Root Cause and document items needed for data or system correction.
β’ Developing/maintaining an understanding of key business drivers/impacts, assisting clients with identifying and solving business-related system and data errors.
β’ Advanced SQL proficiency (SQL Server and/or Oracle) for profiling, validation, and reconciliation; fluency with ERD/relational modeling, normalization, keys, indexing.
β’ 4+ years of strong technical writing skills and proficiency with Visio/diagramming; experience maintaining auditable artifacts in SharePoint/Confluence/Azure DevOps.
