Data Analyst

Peak Performers has partnered with a Texas State Agency to assist in their search for a remote Data Analyst . In this contract position, you will be responsible for perform highly advanced (senior-level) data analysis and documentation supporting the agency’s Technology Modernization initiatives (including Mainframe Transformation and LoneSTAR). Major duties • Profile and map data, document source-to-target (S2T) transformations, analyze data defects, define data quality controls, and create dataflow/lineage documentation across SQL Server, Oracle, and mainframe/legacy sources. • Collaborate with product owners, SMEs, DBAs, ETL engineers (SSIS/ADF/Informatica), and reporting teams (Power BI/SSRS) to translate business needs into clear requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria. • Perform data analysis and documentation to support projects including SaaS/COTS implementations, mainframe data migrations, and Data Warehouse development. • Assess and improve mainframe transformation processes, ensuring deliverables and documentation align with established standards and procedures. • Assign and track work of team members or independently complete project deliverables as needed. What are we looking for? • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline or equivalent work experience. • 10+ years of business analysis experience with a focus on data modeling and data flow for software development projects. • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, analytical, written/verbal/ presentation communication skills (specifically technical writing); and well-versed with MS Office suite of products and prototyping/screen mock-up tools such as Visio and SnagIt. • Hands-on requirements elicitation; client management and technical documentation including traceability, use cases, prototyping, and data modeling. • Facilitating analysis of business and functional requirements and design of technology specifications, working with business / functional personnel. • Experience working with ETL/ELT teams and artifacts (SSIS, ADF, and/or Informatica): reading/writing S2T specs, documenting transformations, validating loads. • Strong analysis experience and expertise in assessing Production Support issues related to system and/or data bridges to determine Root Cause and document items needed for data or system correction. • Developing/maintaining an understanding of key business drivers/impacts, assisting clients with identifying and solving business-related system and data errors. • Advanced SQL proficiency (SQL Server and/or Oracle) for profiling, validation, and reconciliation; fluency with ERD/relational modeling, normalization, keys, indexing. • 4+ years of strong technical writing skills and proficiency with Visio/diagramming; experience maintaining auditable artifacts in SharePoint/Confluence/Azure DevOps.
