Role description
Join our team in Minneapolis, MN, and contribute to wildfire mitigation and GIS quality assurance. This role involves working on the optimization of the real-time ADMS system used to operate the Electric Distribution grid.
Project Overview
Focus on adding state-of-communications to field devices, ensuring quality assurance of both communications and geospatial data. You'll support the ADMS v39 upgrade testing, OMS testing, and wildfire testing, interacting with internal teams such as Wildfire Engineering and Control Room Operations, as well as external vendors like client.
Typical Day
• Update communications state on field devices.
• Validate and reconcile communications and geospatial data.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and vendors.
• Participate in ADMS, OMS, and wildfire test activities.
Work Environment
This role involves coordination with internal stakeholders and external vendors for integrations and testing. It primarily takes place in a desk environment.
Work Hours
Standard 40 hours/week with a hybrid schedule: in-office on Tue/Wed/Thu with flexibility. No overtime expected.
Skills And Qualifications
• 3–5 years of GIS experience, preferably in utility or critical infrastructure.
• Ability to understand engineering diagrams, such as substation one-line and feeder diagrams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including SharePoint.
• Experience with integrated GIS software and version-based GIS editing.
Non-Technical Skills
• Self-directed learning and critical thinking.
• Ability to execute mid-term projects and collaborate across diverse teams.
Ideal Candidate Background
3–5 years of experience is ideal, with up to 6 years acceptable. A background in GIS for critical infrastructure is preferred. A degree in GIS or related fields is a plus.
Preferred Skills
• Python and SQL knowledge is beneficial.
• Basic SCADA familiarity is a valuable differentiator.
Essential Responsibilities
• Collaborate with various departments on data management and integrity.
• Resolve model promotion issues for the ADMS impedance model.
• Support ADMS device integration and technology by working with field technicians and IT personnel.
• Configure ADMS user interface and maintain specialized mapping products.
• Monitor and maintain ADMS model accuracy and provide performance reporting.
Minimum Requirements
• 2 years of GIS experience, Client Smallworld preferred.
• 2 years of Electric Distribution Operations or similar experience.
• Experience with Geospatial Database Integration and SCADA devices.
• Strong communication skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of client ADMS is a plus.
