Role description
Join a mission-driven team at the forefront of public health in New Mexico’s Tribal communities. As a Tribal Data Analyst, you’ll use your analytical expertise to strengthen state-Tribal collaboration, shape policy, and promote health equity rooted in cultural respect and data sovereignty. Your work will directly support healthier futures for American Indian Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes across the state. The Team You Will be Joining The State of New Mexico government agency that serves as a bridge to support communication, collaboration, and health initiatives between the state health department and Native American tribes. Major Duties • Help improve communication and collaboration between Tribal governments and the state under SB196 • Support outreach and activities with American Indian Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes • Respond to data and research requests from Tribal leaders and state agencies • Analyze and share data on Tribal health issues like substance abuse, cancer, and chronic diseases • Provide reports to guide funding, program improvements, and long-term strategies • Identify health trends and disparities to inform public health actions in Tribal communities • Maintain dashboards and databases for Tribal health data • Create culturally relevant fact sheets, reports, and presentations for Tribal, state, and federal partners • Facilitate respectful communication with Tribal, local, state, and federal health partners • Organize meetings and forums to share data and gather feedback • Work with grants teams on data for funding and performance metrics • Support evaluations of health programs in Tribal populations • Collaborate with the Tribal Epidemiologist on disease tracking and outbreak response • Contribute to technical briefs, reports, and publications on Tribal public health What We’re Looking For • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health , Data Science, or related field • Minimum 2 years of public health data analysis experience, preferably in Tribal or Indigenous health • Knowledge of SB196, Tribal sovereignty, and Tribal public health infrastructure • Proficiency with Excel, R, SAS, SPSS, Power BI, or Tableau • Strong communication skills; able to create clear, accessible reports for diverse audiences • Master’s degree in Public Health or related field preferred • Familiarity with Tribal data-sharing policies and data sovereignty principles preferred • Experience working directly with Tribal communities preferred • GIS or mapping experience a plus Exciting Opportunity Details • Hourly Rate: $34.00/hour • Location: Remote (with occasional travel to Tribal communities, conferences, or meetings) • Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (40 hours per week) • Assignment Length: 1–2 years, with possible extension Note: Eligible candidates are required to be residents of the state of New Mexico.
