Role description
Associate Data Architect (AI & Data)
Logistics
• Location: Charlotte, NC
• Schedule: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (4 days preferred)
• Contract Length: 12 months (strong potential for extension or conversion)
About the Role
This is a great opportunity for a strong developer or data engineer who’s ready to step into architecture.
You won’t be building AI models or acting as a data scientist. Instead, you’ll help shape how AI and data solutions are designed and used across the enterprise. This role focuses on defining architecture patterns, guiding teams, and ensuring scalable, secure solutions—especially across AWS platforms and Snowflake environments.
If you enjoy thinking beyond just coding—understanding why systems are designed a certain way and helping others build them correctly—this role is a strong fit.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Partner with senior architects to define and document AI and data architecture patterns
• Help establish and enforce platform standards, guardrails, and best practices
• Evaluate new use cases and ensure the right data pipelines and services are in place
• Design solutions leveraging AWS-native services
• Advise teams on data ingestion, storage, analytics, and AI enablement approaches
• Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with Agile teams to guide architecture decisions (without owning delivery)
• Support adoption of enterprise-wide data and AI standards
Team & Environment
• Part of a centralized Enterprise Architecture group
• Focused on AI & Data Architecture (not application development)
• Supports multiple application teams across the organization
• Cloud-first environment using AWS
• Data ecosystem centered around Snowflake (usage & consumption patterns)
What You Bring (Must-Haves)
• 2–8 years of experience (ideal: senior developer or data engineer moving toward architecture)
• Strong engineering foundation with architectural thinking
• Hands-on experience with:
• AWS (compute, analytics, serverless, databases, integration)
• Data architecture concepts (ingestion, storage, warehousing, security)
• Snowflake (data access patterns, not necessarily deep admin work)
• Foundational understanding of AI / GenAI concepts:
• LLMs, integrations, monitoring, observability
• AI enablement (not model training)
• Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfortable working in regulated environments (financial services experience is a plus)
Nice to Have
• Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Experience with:
• Data tools (Matillion, Pentaho, DataStage)
• APIs (REST, JSON, API gateways)
• Programming in Python or R
• Familiarity with:
• Emerging AI patterns (agentic workflows, AI-assisted development tools)
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
• DevSecOps tools (Jenkins, Git, Ansible, etc.)
What Makes Someone Successful Here
• You’ve built real systems and can explain how and why they work
• You’re curious and want to grow into architecture (not already a senior architect)
• You’re interested in both data and AI, not just one or the other
• You bring strong follow-through and ownership, even without direct build responsibility
