Job Summary
The Architect – Master Data Management (MDM) is responsible for designing, implementing, and advancing the enterprise MDM architecture with a focus on provider and physician data. This role will lead the technical vision, architecture, and hands-on development of MDM solutions that ensure data accuracy, consistency, and usability across the healthcare system.
The Architect will partner with business stakeholders, data engineers, and clinical/operational teams to stand up and scale an MDM ecosystem that supports enterprise-wide data governance, analytics, interoperability, and digital transformation. This role requires deep experience with Databricks, modern data engineering, and healthcare provider data, and may be an ideal next step for a senior engineer who has operated within health systems in an MDM capacity.
Essential Duties
Architecture, Design & Development
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of a physician-based MDM architecture, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and alignment with enterprise data strategy.
• Architect and build MDM components including data models, match/merge logic, survivorship rules, workflows, and reference data structures.
• Apply advanced knowledge of Databricks to build scalable pipelines, quality frameworks, and integrations supporting MDM assets.
• Define and implement enterprise standards for MDM solutions, data quality, and metadata management.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
• Collaborate with business leaders, clinicians, analysts, and data engineering teams to understand provider data requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for MDM technologies, architecture patterns, and healthcare provider data domains.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Data Governance & Quality
• Partner with Data Governance to establish stewardship practices, data definitions, and quality controls for provider data.
• Identify root causes of data quality issues and lead corrective action across multiple data sources and systems.
• Ensure MDM solutions support compliance, trust, and enterprise usage of provider data.
Project Delivery & Execution
• Manage and execute multiple complex initiatives with minimal supervision.
• Provide architectural direction and hands-on development to accelerate delivery of MDM projects.
• Conduct technical reviews, perform optimization of solutions, and ensure adherence to development and architectural standards.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor performance of MDM solutions and proactively optimize efficiency and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, performing root-cause analysis and implementing sustainable countermeasures.
• Evaluate emerging MDM and data engineering tools and recommend improvements to enhance scalability and capability.
Required Qualifications
• Strong SQL
• Strong, hands-on experience in Master Data Management, preferably within a healthcare or health-system environment.
• Deep expertise with Databricks, distributed data processing, and modern data engineering practices.
• Experience working with healthcare provider/physician data, credentialing systems, EHR integration, or provider rosters.
• Demonstrated ability to architect and implement enterprise data solutions using MDM tools and frameworks.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts between technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to lead without formal authority across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with MDM platforms (e.g., Unity Catalog, Informatica MDM, Reltio, Semarchy, Profisee, IBM MDM).
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards (NPI, credentialing sources, Epic provider master, HL7/FHIR).
• Prior participation in data governance programs or stewardship roles.
