Role description
Job Title: Data Engineer Job Description This role focuses on building the foundational data infrastructure for an AI-driven optical metrology platform. You will design and implement a lightweight Manufacturing Execution System (MES) that connects optical measurement instruments, manufacturing build data, and AI analysis workflows into a unified, queryable system. This greenfield opportunity allows you to own the MES schema design, S3-based data lake architecture, ingestion pipelines, and web dashboard infrastructure that will serve as the single source of truth for optical quality across a broad device portfolio, enabling automated reporting, tester validation, and specification optimization. Responsibilities β€’ Design and implement the optical metrology MES data model, including structures such as build matrix (program to configuration to component to sub-assembly to device), measurement records, tester registry, and metric definitions. β€’ Architect and deploy an S3-based data lake with automated ingestion pipelines that transform optical tester outputs in CSV, text, and proprietary formats into structured, queryable storage. β€’ Develop custom integration adapters, such as MCPs or export plugins, for optical tester software including tools like Radiant Vision Systems TrueTest, custom MATLAB or Python scripts, and pDOT. β€’ Implement AI agent workflows for automated analysis, including GR&R validation, statistical process control (SPC) run charts, build summaries such as yield and Cpk, and specification correlation. β€’ Design and deploy internal web dashboards using technologies such as React, Harmony, CloudFront with S3, or equivalent frameworks to provide self-service data access for internal stakeholders. β€’ Establish robust data governance practices, including access controls, schema versioning, change traceability, and comprehensive metadata management. β€’ Collaborate closely with optical metrology engineers to translate measurement workflows and domain requirements into scalable and reliable system architecture. β€’ Use Python and SQL to build, maintain, and optimize data processing, transformation, and analysis pipelines that support reporting and AI workflows. β€’ Apply Infrastructure as Code tools to provision, configure, and maintain cloud-based data infrastructure in a repeatable and auditable manner. β€’ Communicate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams to align data architecture with hardware, quality, and manufacturing requirements. Essential Skills β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field. β€’ 5+ years of experience designing and building data pipelines and developing web applications for data visualization dashboards using React or equivalent frameworks. β€’ 3+ years of experience developing or implementing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), including data model design, traceability schemas, and integration with production equipment or test instruments, with 1–2 years of MES experience considered acceptable in some cases. β€’ Proficiency with AWS services such as S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, DynamoDB, or an equivalent cloud data stack. β€’ Strong experience with Python and SQL for data processing, transformation, and analysis. β€’ Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform. β€’ Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between engineering domain experts and software architecture requirements. β€’ Hands-on experience in data engineering, including building and maintaining scalable data pipelines. β€’ Experience developing data visualization dashboards that support self-service analytics for technical and non-technical users. Additional Skills & Qualifications β€’ Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. β€’ Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC), GR&R methodology, or metrology data analysis. β€’ Background in display metrology or hardware quality systems. β€’ Experience with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) concepts and tools beyond core requirements. β€’ Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-integration frameworks for connecting AI agents to external systems. β€’ Experience working with AI-driven analysis workflows in a manufacturing or test environment. β€’ Exposure to optical measurement instruments and related data formats, including proprietary tester outputs. β€’ Understanding of artificial intelligence concepts as applied to automated analysis, validation, and optimization in manufacturing contexts.
