Role description
Data Engineer
Location: London or Edinburgh (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days per week onsite)
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: £425 per day (Inside IR35)
The Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Data Engineers to join a major transformation programme within a leading financial services organisation. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale cloud data platforms, delivering modern data solutions that support critical business functions.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data products, leveraging cloud-native technologies and best practices across engineering, automation, and DataOps.
What You'll Be Doing
• Design, develop, and maintain robust data ingestion, transformation, and consumption pipelines
• Build and optimise ETL/ELT solutions using cloud-native technologies
• Develop batch and real-time data processing capabilities
• Integrate data from multiple enterprise and cloud-based data sources
• Collaborate with data architects, data modellers, analysts, and business stakeholders
• Ensure data quality, governance, security, and platform performance standards are met
• Contribute to CI/CD implementation, automation, and DataOps best practices
• Support the ongoing enhancement of data platform capabilities and architecture
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex data engineering challenges
• Document solutions and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
Required Experience
• Strong experience building and supporting data pipelines within AWS environments
• Expertise in ETL/ELT development and data orchestration frameworks
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
• Experience working with Spark and distributed data processing technologies
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including S3 and Glue
• Experience working with Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies
• Knowledge of Snowflake and modern cloud data warehousing solutions
• Understanding of DataOps, CI/CD, automation, and DevOps principles
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise data platforms
• Financial services or banking experience is advantageous
