Job Title: Application Development Data Engineer I Type: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire Location: 100% Remote (U.S.-based candidates only) About the Role We are seeking an Application Development Data Engineer I with 3–5 years of experience in data engineering, Oracle SQL/PLSQL, Python, Unix Shell Scripting, and ETL development. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity on our high-impact Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) team, which plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of healthcare claims. This role offers the opportunity to work across pre-pay and post-pay systems, develop high-performance data flows, optimize API and SQL query performance, and contribute to the modernization of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, proactive in problem-solving, and passionate about writing clean, scalable code in support of meaningful healthcare outcomes. Key Responsibilities • Build, test, and optimize stable and scalable data transformation pipelines using Oracle SQL/PLSQL and Python • Monitor and enhance performance of SQL queries, APIs, and batch/stream workflows • Perform backend development to support policy updates, claim visibility tools (e.g., Splunk), and self-service features • Design and document integration points, backend architecture changes, and system enhancements • Collaborate cross-functionally with partners in Claims, Coding Analytics, and Payment Integrity • Work with technologies such as Python, Unix Shell Scripting, SQL, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Oracle scripting • Contribute to continuous improvement by exploring emerging technologies including cloud streaming and AI tools • Participate in team meetings, performance reviews, and solution design discussions • Support pre-pay systems through scheduled batch jobs and vendor coordination • Assist with data transfers, edit processing, and reporting in a healthcare claims environment Must-Have Qualifications • 3–5 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field • Proficiency in Oracle SQL and PLSQL • Hands-on experience with Python and Unix Shell Scripting • Strong understanding of ETL concepts and development practices • Experience working in or supporting batch and real-time data processing systems • Comfortable working in a containerized cloud environment (e.g., Kubernetes on AWS) • Strong collaboration and communication skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with healthcare claims or adjudication systems • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field • Certifications in data engineering, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), or relevant technologies (SQL, Python, ETL tools) About the FWA Team The Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) team is focused on delivering accurate claim payments through sophisticated pre- and post-pay systems.
