Role Description This is a contract hybrid role for a hands-on Data Engineer, to architect and deploy customer data infrastructure using Tealium and other data management systems. The role is based in Austin, Texas, supporting clients in the USA, with work-from-home flexibility. You are a technical bridge connecting systems, building the pipelines that turn fragmented customer data into a unified, actionable asset. The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, implementing data governance practices, developing solutions for data integration, and ensuring data quality. Day-to-day tasks include working with cross-functional teams to understand client use cases and other business requirements, performing data analysis, and optimizing data systems for performance and scalability. Qualifications β€’ Data pipeline design and development, data integration, and optimization skills β€’ Experience with data governance, data quality assurance, and privacy compliance β€’ Knowledge of applied AI applications and data discovery β€’ Proficiency in working with hybrid cloud infrastructure and high-performance computing β€’ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams β€’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field β€’ Experience in the data engineering field β€’ Experience working with data orchestration systems such as Tealium, Snowflake, and/or AWS is preferred What You'll Do Systems Integration & Implementation β€’ Deploy and configure a customer data platform (CDP) across web, mobile, other client-side and several server-side environments including marketing tools, analytics platforms, CRMs, data warehouses, and business systems β€’ Design and implement data layers that capture customer interactions across all touchpoints β€’ Build and maintain API connections between Tealium and internal/external systems Data Engineering & Pipeline Development β€’ Create real-time and batch data pipelines that route customer data to the right destinations β€’ Design event taxonomies and data schemas that make sense for both technical and business teams β€’ Build data transformations and enrichment logic within Tealium EventStream and AudienceStream β€’ Develop custom connectors and middleware when off-the-shelf integrations won't cut it Quality & Governance β€’ Respect for the strictest of security and privacy protocols in handling, processing, and managing data β€’ Responsible assignment of access to audience and analytics reporting by the client’s agencies and other marketing vendors β€’ Implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting to ensure pipeline reliability β€’ Establish data quality standards and troubleshoot data discrepancies across systems β€’ Document data flows, integration specifications, and system architectures β€’ Ensure compliance with privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) in all data processes What You Bring Required Technical Skills β€’ 3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience β€’ Strong proficiency in JavaScript for tag management and data layer implementation β€’ Experience with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and system integration patterns β€’ SQL proficiency and familiarity with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) β€’ Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline orchestration Soft Skills β€’ Curiosity and willingness to challenge legacy business practices and explore new β€’ Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders β€’ Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail β€’ Collaborative approach to working with marketing, analytics, and engineering teams β€’ Self-starter who can manage multiple integration projects simultaneously Nice to Have β€’ Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) β€’ Familiarity with Python for data processing and automation β€’ Knowledge of mobile SDKs (iOS/Android) and app tracking β€’ Understanding of machine learning pipelines and AI model deployment β€’ Experience with other marketing technology platforms and automation tools Why This Role Matters You'll be instrumental in breaking down data silos and creating a single source of truth for customer data.
