Role description
Data Engineer (BigQuery | GCP | eCommerce) Location: Remote Duration: Contract (12+ months, potential for extension) Rate: 52-55/hr - W2 No C2C contracts Overview We are seeking a Data Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, and SQL, along with experience supporting eCommerce data ecosystems. This role will focus on building scalable, high-performance data pipelines and models that power analytics, customer insights, and business-critical decision-making across digital commerce platforms. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering mindset, hands-on development experience, and a solid understanding of eCommerce data such as transactions, customer behavior, and digital interactions. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and ELT processes using BigQuery and GCP services • Write and tune complex, high-performance SQL queries across large-scale datasets • Build and maintain data models to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence • Ingest and transform data from eCommerce platforms (orders, customers, product catalogs, clickstream data) • Partner with product, analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions • Ensure data quality, governance, and reliability across the data ecosystem • Optimize performance and cost efficiency within BigQuery and GCP environments Required Qualifications • 4+ years of experience in Data Engineering • Experience supporting eCommerce companies • Strong hands-on experience with BigQuery • Advanced proficiency in SQL (complex joins, window functions, performance tuning) • Experience working within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) • Experience supporting eCommerce or digital platforms (transactions, customer data, clickstream, etc.) • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT, and large-scale data processing Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Python for data processing or automation • Familiarity with data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow) • Experience with streaming data or real-time processing • Exposure to analytics tools (Looker, Tableau, etc.) • Background in high-growth or enterprise-scale digital environments What We're Looking For • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to build and scale data solutions end-to-end • Ability to work in fast-paced, data-driven environments (especially eCommerce) • Engineers who understand both data infrastructure and business impact • Effective communicators who can collaborate across technical and non-technical teams Marathon TS is committed to the development of a creative, diverse and inclusive work environment.
