Data Engineer

IN-OFFICE | CONTRACT Data Engineer Location: Birmingham, AL (In-office with occasional field visits) Compensation: $75-100 hourly depending on experience, 3-6 month contract A rapidly growing company specializing in mobile fleet fueling solutions is seeking a Data Engineer to lead the first phases of AI integration into their daily operations. This is an in-office role that includes occasional field work at their Birmingham yard. Our client is seeking candidates with a strong business mind that can lead the integration of AI-powered solutions into workflow to enhance logistics and operational efficiency. Responsibilities: • Building a new database dedicated to AI and business intelligence. • Designing a dashboard that can connect licensed AI tools to data. • Produce insightful and meaningful results by understanding business and daily operations of the organization. Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) • Proven experience with database design and data modeling • Familiarity with AWS Cloud services, MongoDB and real-time data management • Familiarity with visualization/dashboard tools • Exposure to practical applications of AI in fleet management, logistics, and finance • A strong systems mindset with the ability to manage both software and hardware in tandem • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through Preferred Experience but not Required: • Familiarity with APIs • Proficiency in C#, Terraform, JavaScript, and TypeScript • Experience with Raspberry Pi, MQTT, and cellular modems • Comfortable working with Swift/iOS environments
