Data Engineer - ETL/SSIS

Our client, a leading provider of technology enabled risk and claims management solutions, is seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong skills in SSIS, ETL processes, and advanced SQL scripting (T-SQL and PL/SQL).
This long-term, remote contract role is part of a high-performing data team responsible for large-scale data migration, cleansing, and transformation projects across enterprise claims systems.
You will play a critical role in building and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring clean and accurate data for high-volume transactional environments.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design, build, and troubleshoot robust SSIS-based ETL pipelines to process and transform data from external client systems.
β’ Develop and optimize complex T-SQL or PL/SQL scripts, stored procedures, and queries for data transformation, cleansing, and validation.
β’ Perform data mapping, normalization, and deduplication to ensure data integrity during migrations.
β’ Collaborate closely with stakeholders and QA teams to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and business alignment.
β’ Tune SQL performance using indexing, execution plan analysis, and query optimization techniques.
β’ Analyze data from multiple structured sources (CSV, XML, flat files) to derive insights and support business reporting needs.
β’ Create and maintain automated reports using tools such as SSRS, BusinessObjects, or Crystal Reports.
β’ Build/Monitor/Troubleshoot Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) nightly jobs using SSIS.
β’ Design and implement T-SQL views from dimensional models to support reporting.
β’ Optimize SQL query performance by analysis, profiling and indexing to minimize response time.
Required Skills:
Advanced proficiency in:
β’ SQL scripting (T-SQL or PL/SQL)
β’ SSIS and ETL pipeline design, development, and troubleshooting
β’ Data cleansing, transformation, and validation best
β’ SQL Server performance tuning, indexing, stored procedures, and debugging
β’ Working with structured data formats (CSV, XML, flat files)
β’ Data migrations across multiple formats and systems
β’ Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex data logic clearly
β’ Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work independently
β’ Experience in high-volume claims systems, insurance, or similar transactional environments
β’ Familiarity with cloud environments such as Azure
β’ Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and using tools like Azure DevOps
β’ Experience with reporting tools (SSRS, Crystal Reports, BusinessObjects)
β’ Strong analytical mindset and exceptional attention to detail
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication; able to explain complex data logic clearly
β’ Proactive, accountable, and self-motivated
β’ Comfortable working independently in a remote, fast-paced setting
