Job Title: Data Engineer – IBM Db2 Open Positions: 2 Location: Seattle, WA (Hybrid) Duration: 6+ Months Contract Experience: 4–6 Years Start Date: March 15, 2026 Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer with strong IBM Db2 expertise to design, optimize, and modernize data pipelines supporting enterprise analytics and BI initiatives. This role will focus on advanced Db2 SQL development, table function engineering, performance optimization, and enabling scalable analytical workloads. The ideal candidate has deep experience in Db2 (LUW/Server), strong SQL tuning capabilities, and proven ability to refactor legacy stored procedures into high-performance, BI-ready data structures. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and transformations in IBM Db2 • Build and optimize SQL-based data models for analytics and BI consumption • Develop, refactor, and optimize Db2 Table Functions (Inline & Compiled SQL Table Functions) • Modernize legacy Db2 logic by replacing stored procedures with optimized table functions • Implement performance tuning strategies using explain plans, indexing, MQTs, and query optimization • Ensure BI-friendly data structures for tools such as Metabase • Implement robust error handling using SQLSTATE, default return sets, and NULL-safe logic • Ensure deterministic, stable, and maintainable SQL development practices • Unit test table functions for edge cases, large input volumes, and NULL handling • Collaborate with BI, Data Engineering, and AI teams to support analytics and reporting use cases Required Technical Skills Core IBM Db2 Expertise • Strong hands-on experience with IBM Db2 (LUW / Server) • Advanced Db2 SQL development for analytical workloads • Expertise in: • Complex joins on large fact tables • Window functions & analytical SQL • Common Table Expressions (CTEs) • Recursive queries • Materialized Query Tables (MQTs) • Stored Procedures and UDFs Db2 Modernization & Optimization • Experience refactoring stored procedures into table functions • Handling multi-value parameters in Db2 • Implementing deterministic and stable SQL logic • Performance tuning using: • Explain plans • Index optimization • Query rewriting techniques BI & Integration • Experience integrating Db2 with BI tools (Metabase preferred) • Optimizing Db2 views and aggregates for reporting workloads • Supporting analytics and reporting data pipelines Testing & Stability • Unit testing for: • Parameter edge cases • Empty result sets • NULL handling • High-volume datasets Nice to Have • Exposure to AI/ML data preparation pipelines • Experience refactoring Db2 logic into ELT or cloud-native architectures • Experience working in enterprise-scale analytics platforms • Understanding of data governance and data quality best practices
