Contract Position C2C
Location: Seattle, WA (Onsite)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Analytics team. This role is central to delivering actionable insights into video streaming Quality of Experience (QoE) over 5G networks, leveraging User-Level Function (ULF) and User Plane Function (UPF) Event Data Records (EDRs). You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines and analytics solutions that extract KPIs from large-scale 5G data, enabling superior OTT video service monitoring and optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Develop scalable data ingestion and processing pipelines to parse, normalize, and analyze UPF and ULF EDRs from 5G network infrastructure.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, build, and refine QoE-related KPIs such as:
β’ Video start time
β’ Buffering ratio
β’ Throughput
β’ Bitrate/resolution switching
β’ Rebuffering frequency/duration
β’ Mean Opinion Score (MOS)
β’ Design and implement data models that support longitudinal trend analysis across millions of OTT video sessions on smartphones.
β’ Integrate and optimize datasets from core network EDRs, RAN performance metrics, and streaming app telemetry.
β’ Assist the customer in building an analytics foundation to assess user-perceived video performance over 5G and guide strategic improvements.
β’ Participate in stakeholder meetings, present insights, and make data-driven recommendations to improve video delivery experience.
β’ Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with internal standards and privacy regulations.
Required Qualifications:
β’ Bachelor's or Masterβs degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
β’ 5+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics roles, preferably in telecom or wireless networks.
β’ Deep understanding of 5G core architecture, especially UPF, SMF, PCF, and ULF/ULCL components.
β’ Proven experience working with EDRs in telecom environments; ability to decode and process complex CDR/EDR data formats.
β’ Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java; experience with distributed data systems (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink).
β’ Expertise with SQL, data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), and data pipeline tools (e.g., Airflow, Kafka).
β’ Ability to work with streaming data and real-time KPI generation from network telemetry.
β’ Familiarity with QoE metrics frameworks like 3GPP TS 28.406, ITU P.1203, and tools for measuring video streaming experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience with 5G QoS monitoring, MEC architecture, and OTT video analytics (e.g., DASH, HLS).
β’ Knowledge of RAN KPIs, cell-level performance monitoring, and network slicing metrics.
β’ Experience in visualizing large datasets using tools like Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
β’ Prior experience collaborating with mobile network operators or streaming platforms.
