Data Engineer

🚨 Data Engineer | London Hybrid | £450–£500pd Outside IR35 | 6 Months Initial I’m working with a well-established, independently run alternative asset manager with 25+ years in the market and over $5bn AUM. They operate across London, New York, Hong Kong, Geneva, Dubai, Singapore and the BVI, supporting institutional investors, private banks, family offices and HNWIs across hedge fund and private equity strategies. They’re now looking for a Data Engineer to join a small, high-output engineering team building and running a proprietary cloud-native data platform. This is an initial 6-month contract, outside IR35, offering £450–£500 per day. This is not a “wait for a ticket” type of contract. You’ll work directly with stakeholders across operations, research and investment, getting under the skin of how data moves across the business, spotting inefficiencies, and fixing the things that slow people down. You’ll be working on: • Production pipelines from financial data vendors • Data flow optimisation across the business • Reliability, alerting and latency improvements • AI capability, including RAG pipelines and OCR-based document extraction • AWS infrastructure managed with Terraform • Close collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders What they’re looking for: • Strong Python and SQL • Hands-on AWS experience • Terraform / Infrastructure-as-Code • Production operations experience • Confidence communicating with non-technical users • Comfortable using AI engineering tools such as Cursor, Claude Code or Codex Bonus points for: • Financial services experience • MongoDB • Vendor API integrations • RAG / LLM tooling You’ll suit this contract if you like autonomy, enjoy solving messy business problems, and get genuinely annoyed when a process is more manual than it needs to be.
