Contract Data Engineer (KDB+/Q)
Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Contract Data Engineer specializing in KDB+/Q, where you will play an integral role in driving innovation and efficiency within our data solutions. Located in New York City, this position involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain high-performance time series database systems that cater to complex business needs.
β’ Must be able to commute onsite 4- 5 days/ week to NYC
β’ We are only accepting US Citizens, GC holders, GC EAD.
β’ This is a W2 contract- we can not do C2C arrangements
Key Responsibilities
β’ Design, develop, and implement robust KDB+/Q-based solutions to align with both business and technical requirements.
β’ Collaborate with various teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable technical designs.
β’ Perform system integration, testing, and validation to ensure top-tier performance, reliability, and compliance.
β’ Troubleshoot, optimize, and resolve technical challenges across production and development environments.
β’ Develop automation and deployment scripts (e.g., Ansible, Shell scripting) to enhance operational efficiency.
β’ Document technical specifications, processes, and procedures to ensure ongoing support and knowledge transfer.
Required Skills
β’ 10+ years of professional experience with a strong emphasis focusing on KDB+/Q engineering.
β’ Proven ability to write production-grade codeβbeyond just executing queries.
β’ Strong proficiency in KDB+/Q development (approximately 65% of your role).
β’ Experience in operational support and maintenance (approximately 25%).
β’ Knowledge of architecture and design concepts (approximately 10%).
β’ Familiarity with automation/configuration tools such as Ansible and adeptness in Shell scripting.
β’ Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in high-performance environments.
β’ Strong background from leading financial services or trading firms is essential.
Nice To Have Skills
β’ Previous experience at specialized KDB+/Q consultancies such as First Derivative or AquaQ / Data Intellect.
β’ Experience supporting projects at Citadel Securities or similar top-tier trading/quant firms is highly desirable.
Preferred Education And Experience
β’ A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, alongside significant hands-on experience in a similar role.
Other Requirements
β’ Ability to work onsite in New York, NY, 4-5 days per week is required
β’ Contract engagement extended through December 31, 2025 with likelihood of extending into 2026 extremely high.
