Data Engineer (SQL Server)

Job Title: Data Engineer (SQL Server / ETL) Location: Hybrid – Atlanta, GA (4 days onsite) Type: Contract Overview We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer for our client to design, build, and optimize data pipelines that support critical business applications and analytics. This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including data transformation, pipeline orchestration, and performance tuning. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure data is accurate, timely, and scalable, while helping define data sourcing and ingestion strategies across multiple systems. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft SQL Server • Implement and manage incremental data load strategies using Change Data Capture and other techniques • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for large datasets • Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot automated workflows using SQL Server Agent • Design data refresh strategies (full reloads, truncation, incremental loads) based on business and system requirements • Handle data lifecycle processes, including deletes, updates, and historical tracking • Utilize hashing or similar techniques for deduplication, change detection, and data integrity • Work extensively within SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for development, debugging, and performance tuning • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions • Define and improve data sourcing strategies across internal and external systems • Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across all pipelines Required Qualifications • 5+ years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server in a data engineering or ETL-focused role • Strong expertise using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for query development, debugging, and optimization • Advanced SQL skills (complex queries, joins, CTEs, performance tuning) • Hands-on experience with Change Data Capture or other incremental data ingestion methods • Experience with job scheduling and automation using SQL Server Agent • Proven experience designing ETL/ELT processes, including full and incremental load strategies • Experience working with large datasets and optimizing performance • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and data modeling Preferred Qualifications • Experience integrating with or sourcing data from SAP systems (e.g., ECC, S/4HANA) What Success Looks Like • Reliable, automated data pipelines with minimal failures • Efficient data load strategies that reduce processing time and cost • High data quality and consistency across systems • Clear, scalable data architecture that supports business growth About GSquared Group: Shouldn’t your recruiting partner put as much effort and value into your career as you do?
