Title: Data Engineer Location: Chillicothe, IL Details: 24-month contract with ongoing need, opportunity for direct hire Pay Rate: $35.00 – 40.00/hr. based on benefit inclusions Job Summary The Data Engineer position at Caterpillar provides capacity planning support for Caterpillar facilities worldwide. In addition to technical expertise, this role requires strong communication skills and experience in supply chain or manufacturing environments. Primary responsibilities include gathering and analyzing capacity data, executing statistical analysis of product demand, and providing actionable insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The Data Engineer will collaborate with global teams, interpret and present analysis results, and contribute to process improvements that impact operations around the world. Responsibilities • Gather and analyze supply chain and manufacturing capacity data to support global operations. • Build, maintain, and interpret statistical component demand models, clearly communicating results to technical and non-technical audiences. • Collaborate with clients, team members, and process partners to understand business needs and deliver relevant insights. • Investigate capacity solutions and present recommendations in accessible language for diverse stakeholders. • Lead process improvement projects, facilitating effective communication and collaboration across teams. • Maintain schedules and coordinate activities using SharePoint and ECR-S tools, ensuring transparency and clarity. • Input and manage data in ECR-S Tools, maintaining and coordinating ECR-S Results. • Execute ECR-S and SCOPE processes, documenting and communicating analysis results with a focus on business impact. Years of Experience and Education • 0–2 years of experience required. A relevant degree or certification is expected. • Experience or coursework in supply chain, manufacturing, or process planning is highly preferred. Skills Required Top 3 Skills • Proficient in the Microsoft Tool Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for both technical analysis and clear, professional communication. • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with demonstrated ability to interpret and explain statistical results to non-technical teams. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Additional Technical Skills • Experience in supply chain and manufacturing process planning. • Familiarity with Caterpillar systems and facilities is a plus. Soft Skills • Team player who collaborates effectively with diverse, global teams and adapts communication style to audience needs. • Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to lead process improvement initiatives and communicate results to stakeholders at all levels. Preferred Experience • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. • Experience leading meetings, facilitating discussions, and driving action items in a collaborative environment.
