Role description
Position Title: Data Engineer Location: Tysons, VA / Winchester, VA / Pensacola, FL (Hybrid) Clearance Requirements: None Position Status: Contract to Hire Pay Rate: DOE Position Description: We’re seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and cloud-based data systems that enable seamless data collection, integration, and analysis. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions, ensuring data quality, performance, and governance across all systems. You will work hands-on with Azure Data Factory, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), MongoDB, and Databricks, building and maintaining data workflows that drive insight and decision-making. Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and related ETL tools. • Ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources (including APIs, JSON, and NoSQL databases) into structured SQL environments. • Implement and enforce data governance, lineage tracking, and quality standards to ensure system reliability and consistency. • Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather data requirements and design efficient, scalable solutions. • Optimize existing data workflows for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. • Query and integrate data from MongoDB, SQL, and other data warehousing solutions. • Apply best practices in metadata management, data security, and cloud architecture. • Support ongoing data analytics and reporting initiatives in partnership with cross-functional teams. Required Skills & Education: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Data Integration, or ETL Development. • Advanced proficiency in SQL, API frameworks, and JSON transformations. • Experience with Azure Data Factory, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Databricks, and data warehousing solutions (Azure SQL, MongoDB, etc.). • Familiarity with Python, PowerShell, R, or C# for data automation and transformation. • Strong understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and ETL design principles. • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. • Proven ability to work in a collaborative, hybrid work environment. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have): • Experience implementing data governance frameworks and metadata management solutions. • Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, Snowflake). • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data engineering.
