Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support the implementation, configuration, and operationalization of the Globus Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform within a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) hosted Data DMZ environment. This role will focus on enabling secure, large-scale research data transfers, optimizing data movement workflows, and supporting production-ready data infrastructure while ensuring compliance with healthcare security standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Globus, GCP, Linux administration, data engineering, and secure file transfer technologies, with the ability to work across infrastructure, security, and research-focused teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Deploy, configure, and maintain Globus Connect Server (GCS v5) and associated endpoints and collections.
• Configure storage gateways, transfer workflows, and secure data-sharing capabilities.
• Support large-scale, high-performance data transfers across enterprise and research environments.
• Build, optimize, and maintain data pipelines and data movement processes.
• Perform complex SQL-based data analysis, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
• Support data architecture expansion, optimization, and operational readiness.
• Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 operational support for the Globus platform.
• Monitor platform health, performance, and transfer reliability.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, NIST, and Zero-Trust security principles.
• Collaborate with software developers, database architects, analysts, and research stakeholders.
• Create technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
• Conduct data quality reviews and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner.
• Research and recommend improvements to data management and governance processes.
Required Skills
• 3+ years of experience with Globus Managed File Transfer (GCS v5, Endpoints, Collections).
• Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) including:
• Compute Engine
• Cloud Storage
• IAM
• Networking
• Linux system administration and Bash scripting.
• Strong SQL and data analysis expertise.
• Understanding of ETL processes and data validation.
• Knowledge of GridFTP and high-throughput data transfer technologies.
• Experience with networking, security controls, and Zero-Trust architecture.
• Experience supporting MFT or enterprise-scale data transfer environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Healthcare or regulated industry experience.
• Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Azure DevOps exposure.
• SailPoint or identity governance tools.
• HPC (High Performance Computing) environments.
• Research data management workflows.
• Monitoring and observability platforms.
Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• OR
• Associate Degree in Computer Science/Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience.
Ideal Candidate
• Hands-on experience with Globus, GCP, Linux, and secure data transfers.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture and data governance.
• Comfortable working independently while collaborating across technical and business teams.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience supporting mission-critical platforms in highly regulated environments.
