Note:
This is a full-time onsite position in Detroit, MI. Remote work is not an option.
Only local Detroit-area candidates will be considered.
Job Description:We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our team onsite in Detroit. The ideal candidate will have experience transforming raw data into structured, actionable insights, and developing scalable data systems and infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making.
Top Skills Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience transforming raw data into structured systems/platforms
Experience in building and operating distributed systems for data extraction, ingestion, and processing
Expert-level SQL experience, including building and managing database tables
Expert-level Python (or similar analytical programming languages)
Experience compiling and maintaining technical documentation
Strong communication skills, including conveying business requirements and project plans to internal clients
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines to support growing data needs
Build new integrations to handle increasing data volume and complexity
Extract, transform, and load raw unstructured data into structured, consumable formats
Implement and monitor data quality processes to ensure availability and accuracy of production data
Document business rules and data processes clearly for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with the Data Services Infrastructure working group as a contributing member
Key Projects:
Develop robust data pipelines to ingest and load data from multiple sources
Implement automated data quality checks and alerts
Support the development and planning of school performance metrics
Maintain vendor data synchronization systems for school-based staff access to student data
Optimize data infrastructure for broad analytical access across the district
