Cyber Security Data Engineer
Contract: 3 months initially (with strong potential for extension)
Day Rate: £500–550, Outside IR35
Location: Remote (UK-based), with occasional travel to London (once per month)
Start Date: ASAP
Unify are exclusively representing a well-established consultancy, who are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support a major client’s Cyber Security function. The role will focus on enabling the implementation of a new cyber security platform and strengthening the client’s capability in data assurance, architecture, and analysis.
Key Accountabilities
• Support business priorities and requests as directed by senior stakeholders within the client’s Cyber Security Data function.
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of data management and analysis processes to enable secure sharing and processing of security data across the enterprise.
• Oversee data collection mechanisms and ensure they align with architectural standards and stakeholder requirements.
• Assist in implementing appropriate security measures (e.g., encryption, monitoring, firewalls) and support timely incident escalation to cyber specialists.
• Deliver architecture artefacts (conceptual/logical diagrams, future state models) to support digital transformation and enterprise security modernisation.
• Review and recommend technical developments to improve the quality and performance of applications, databases, and supporting infrastructure.
• Document current (“as is”) and target (“to be”) states to accurately scope and support change initiatives.
• Contribute to database specifications and approvals, ensuring standards, data integrity, and compliance are maintained.
• Install, configure, and test databases to meet business and security requirements.
• Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to colleagues to build organisational capability.
Skills & Experience Required
• Degree or equivalent professional training/experience in data engineering, computer science, or related field.
• 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related domains.
• Familiarity with data management frameworks such as EDM Council DCAM/CDMC or DAMA DMBOK.
• Hands-on experience with containerisation/orchestration technologies and container security.
• Strong knowledge of deploying PaaS solutions, APIs, and Infrastructure as Code (ideally Azure or GCP).
• Advanced scripting skills (PowerShell, Shell, Python).
• Exposure to cyber security tooling or the development of security data analysis solutions is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex technical issues and propose practical solutions.
• Strong communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of operating under pressure while managing competing priorities.
• Commitment to continuous learning and raising standards through collaboration, training, and industry knowledge sharing.
