We are seeking a contract Data Engineer with hands-on experience in building scalable Business Intelligence and Data Engineering solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. This role is critical in supporting actuarial modernization and analytical platforms for enterprise-level insurance and reinsurance applications. This role is hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote/week) in Princeton, NJ.
This position is within the Technology group of a global risk and reinsurance business, contributing to the development of actuarial modernization applications used by analysts and clients globally. The role is part of a product-centric technology team supporting data infrastructure for analytics and advisory functions.
Qualifications
β’ 10 years of experience
β’ Proven expertise in implementing Microsoft BI and Azure BI solutions, including ADF, Azure Databricks, Azure Analysis Services, SSIS, and SSRS.
β’ Strong understanding of big data solutions in Azure, especially ADF pipelines, U-SQL jobs, ADLS, and Data Lake Analytics.
β’ Proficient in designing and developing data warehousing systems and ETL processes using normalization and de-normalization techniques.
β’ Experience with developing data pipeline layers (staging, bronze, silver, and gold) to support enterprise-level analytics.
β’ Developed and maintained Databricks notebooks for moving data across pipeline layers.
β’ Hands-on experience creating and deploying complex Azure Analysis Services tabular models; leveraging Azure Automation for scheduling.
β’ Background in building tabular and multidimensional SSAS cubes, defining KPIs, measures, aggregations, and partitions.
β’ Familiarity with designing and implementing robust ETL pipelines using ADF to extract data from diverse sources.
β’ Exposure to insurance/reinsurance data models, especially reinsurance broking data (e.g., placements, treaty structures, client hierarchies), preferred.
β’ Familiarity with actuarial data elements, including rating inputs/outputs, exposure data, and experience datasets preferred.
β’ Experience building data pipelines to support actuarial models, pricing analytics, and downstream broker/client reporting tools preferred.
β’ Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative Agile/Scrum team.
β’ Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; experienced in cross-functional communication and technical documentation.
β’ Proficient in Agile methodologies and SDLC best practices.
β’ Effective in high-pressure environments requiring timely decision-making and complex problem-solving.
