Per Scholas preferred hires reside within the following states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MA, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, WA POSITION TITLE: Data Engineering Instructor LOCATION: Atlanta, Georgia SCHEDULE: In-person DURATION: Contract, 4 months (16 weeks+) REPORTS TO: Director, Technical Instruction COMPENSATION: 60$/hour WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR Per Scholas is seeking a Data Engineering instructor to become a member of our Remote Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong technical and instructional skills, demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment, and maintains a strong sense of accountability. To succeed in this role, candidates must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in instructional delivery that meets clients' and learners' high expectations. WHAT YOU'LL DO Support instructor-led training that prepares students for entry-level to mid-level careers in Data Engineering. Responsibilities include daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance, one-on-one tutoring, daily evaluation and monitoring of individual student progress, addressing student violations with students in a consistent manner, and more. Provide students with access to relevant resources for outside learning on technologies and study aids relevant to the curriculum. Work closely with the team to identify student needs, provide the necessary support, establish individualized plans for student achievement, and participate in regular student-status meetings. Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with student grades, certification scores, and progress notes. Support and maintain the training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and other classroom materials. WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO US Instructional Skill Sets 1-3 years of teaching or training experience Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter Ability to respond clearly to live digital conversations via a digital engagement platform such as Zoom or an in-person training environment. Strong communication skills Required Skill Sets Proficiency in Unix/Linux command line navigation and basic shell scripting In-depth knowledge of relational databases, SQL programming, and database design principles. Experience building and deploying production data processing pipelines Excellent Python and SQL development, debugging, and data modeling skills Experience with data analysis and visualization using Python packages (i.e., NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Pyplot, etc.) Experience setting up new data sources and migrating data, as well as establishing or fine-tuning ETL/ELT processes using industry-recognized technologies Experience with Data Warehousing, Data Mart, and Big Data platforms and technologies Experience with Apache Spark and Spark SQL Experience with Docker Demonstrable proficiency with enterprise Business Intelligence tools (i.e., Power BI or Tableau) Ability to respond clearly to live digital conversations via a digital engagement platform like Zoom Experience with version control systems (i.e., Git) Knowledge of CI/CD tools and processes (i.e. Jenkins). Strong communication skills Commitment to ongoing professional development, applicable certifications, and coursework to stay current with rapidly evolving technology trends and advancements Proficiency in leveraging AI tools (e.g., LLMs, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) for code generation, debugging, and explaining complex technical concepts. Ability to integrate AI-driven workflows into technical troubleshooting and the execution of practice exercises. Preferred Skill Sets Experience with Hadoop and similar frameworks Experience with Kubernetes Experience AWS cloud technologies (AWS Redshift, Athena, QuickSight, MSK, etc.) for Data Analytics Experience with the Coursera platform Professional Qualifications Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical/industry experience) Strong technical aptitude (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, etc.), project management, and organizational skills with detailed follow-through abilities Excellent written communication, presentation, and customer service skills Solid understanding of business needs Strong evaluation and data management skills Prior knowledge or background in IT (if minimal, a desire and willingness to learn what's needed) and a passion for technology is a plus Personal Characteristics You thrive in a creative, inventive, fast-paced startup environment with people who are passionate about their work and mission.
