Data & Architecture: Data Governance Specialist
Columbus, OH (Onsite)
6-12 Months
Mission: Accountable for partnering with business stakeholders, including data owners and stewards, to define, govern, and maintain enterprise data glossary terms and key metrics. Advances business-led, governance-supported data practices that ensure data is trusted, consistently defined, and effectively used across the organization. Leads archive and retention policy efforts, advances data sensitivity classification, and ensures data is secured appropriately based on its classification and use. Acts as a role model for data literacy and stewardship, improving data trust and consistency while enabling Kimball Midwest to operate as a data-driven organization and serving as a bridge between business and technology.
Essential Job Functions
β’ Partners with business stakeholders to define, approve, and maintain data glossary terms and key metrics
β’ Establishes and maintains business glossaries, data definitions, data dictionary, and metadata within governance tools (e.g.,Microsoft Purview) (can have any comparable tool to purview such as collibra, alation, atlan)
β’ Supports and advances enterprise data governance standards, policies, and best practices
β’ Defines and reinforces data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across business domains
β’ Performs data profiling and supports data quality initiatives, including identifying issues and tracking remediation activities
β’ Contributes to the development and execution of data archive and retention policies
β’ Advances data sensitivity classification and supports appropriate data security practices
β’ Facilitates governance working sessions and cross-functional alignment discussions
β’ Ensures governance standards and definitions are consistently applied across reporting, analytics, and operational use cases
β’ Identifies opportunities to improve data trust, usability, and consistency across systems and teams
β’ Maintains a clear understanding of Kimball Midwestβs goals and ensures adherence to company policies, standards, and procedures
β’ Performs other duties as assigned by the Data Governance Senior Product Manager or Director of Enterprise Data and Architecture
