Data Governance Consultant (Atlan) — Asset Management Location: Remote Contract: 6 months initial Rate: $75 - $90p/h About the Role Our client is launching an enterprise data governance initiative and requires a consultant with hands-on experience implementing Atlan in the asset management domain. This role will help the organization establish governance foundations, improve data discovery and trust, and operationalize governance workflows using Atlan connected to their modern data stack (including Snowflake). Key Responsibilities Atlan Implementation & Configuration • Configure and deploy Atlan for enterprise data cataloging and governance use cases. • Connect Atlan to the client’s data sources and metadata systems (e.g., Snowflake, data pipelines, BI tools as applicable). • Implement data lineage, metadata sync, and dataset discovery processes. Data Governance Program Enablement • Define and configure governance operating models, including data ownership/stewardship concepts. Set up and tailor governance workflows such as: • data approvals / review cycles • stewardship assignments • governance status and enforcement mechanisms • Support creation and management of data policies, standards, and definitions. Asset Management Domain Alignment • Apply domain knowledge to organize and govern asset management datasets, such as: • portfolios/holdings • funds/share classes • performance and risk metrics • trade and reference data (as applicable) • Ensure business-friendly terms/glossary and consistent definitions for key asset management concepts. Cataloging & Enrichment • Assist with onboarding critical datasets into Atlan (business and technical metadata). • Support tagging datasets with classifications (e.g., sensitivity tiers, domain tags, ownership). • Ensure documentation quality and usability for downstream users. Stakeholder Engagement & Change Enablement • Partner with business users, data stewards, and engineering stakeholders to drive adoption. • Train stakeholders on governance workflows and effective catalog/data discovery practices. • Provide guidance on governance metrics and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications • Proven hands-on experience implementing Atlan (end-to-end setup, configuration, and operationalization). • Experience delivering data governance programs (operating model, workflows, stewardship, definitions/standards). • Experience in asset management data environments (e.g., investment/portfolio/holdings domains) or comparable financial services data governance. • Strong familiarity with data catalog/governance concepts such as lineage, metadata management, data ownership, and glossary/terms. • Ability to work in environments where Snowflake is a primary data platform (experience is strongly preferred). Preferred Qualifications • Experience with data integration/ELT/ETL metadata sync patterns (e.g., automated onboarding of datasets). • Knowledge of common data governance frameworks and best practices. • Experience supporting executive governance reporting or governance KPIs. • Familiarity with security/privacy governance patterns (e.g., classification, restricted data workflows). Deliverables • Atlan configured for governance workflows and metadata/lineage ingestion • Defined governance operating model elements in Atlan (owners/stewards, roles, policies) • Asset management-focused glossary/terms and dataset mapping • Documentation and enablement materials for stakeholders • Implementation plan and adoption roadmap for ongoing governance operations
