Role description
Hiring: Data Governance Lead - London, United Kingdom - Hybrid, 12 months initial contract.
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Expert to lead. This is a pivotal role that will shape how data is managed, protected, and leveraged across the organisation. You will work cross-functionally with data owners, stewards, IT, compliance, and business stakeholders to establish policies, frameworks, and best practices that ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance. Must be based in or close to London and have a setup or be open to setup own freelance company.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Strategy Development: Design and implement a scaleable, enterprise-wide data governance strategy aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
β’ Framework & Policy Creation: Develop data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures covering data quality, metadata, lineage, classification, and access.
β’ Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business units, IT, and compliance teams to define data ownership, stewardship roles, and responsibilities.
β’ Data Catalogue & Metadata Management: Lead the selection and implementation of data governance tools, including data catalogues and metadata management platforms.
β’ Data Quality Management: Define and monitor data quality KPIs, and implement processes for data profiling, cleansing, and remediation.
β’ Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure data governance practices support compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data privacy and protection regulations.
β’ Change Management: Drive cultural change around data ownership and accountability through training, communication, and advocacy.
β’ Monitoring & Reporting: Establish metrics and dashboards to track the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and report to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
β’ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
β’ 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
β’ Ability to work closely with Data Owners and Data Stewards to upscale them.
β’ Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data life-cycle management, and regulatory compliance.
β’ Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Talend).
β’ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or equivalent.
β’ Experience in regulated industries (e.g., finance, health care, insurance).
β’ Knowledge of data architecture and data modelling concepts.
