Job Summary We are seeking a Data Governance Specialist to support enterprise data management efforts for a leading organization in Washington, DC. This role will focus on developing and implementing data governance policies, managing metadata and data lineage, and partnering with business units to define data stewardship practices. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with tools like Collibra, Informatica, or Alation and a strong understanding of data quality, compliance, and governance frameworks. This position requires strong collaboration, technical acumen, and the ability to drive data governance initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. location: Washington, Washington, D.C. job type: Contract salary: $65 - 75 per hour work hours: 9am to 5pm education: Bachelors Responsibilities β€’ Develop, implement, and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures β€’ Maintain and manage metadata repositories, ensuring consistent documentation of data assets and definitions β€’ Establish and track data lineage from source systems to downstream consumers for compliance and impact analysis β€’ Collaborate with data stewards and business units to define roles, responsibilities, and data ownership β€’ Leverage governance tools such as Informatica, Collibra, or Alation to support enterprise data initiatives β€’ Train and support business stakeholders on governance processes and metadata tool usage β€’ Monitor key data governance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives β€’ Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance governance practices β€’ Apply expertise in SQL and data modeling to support data quality and integrity efforts Qualifications β€’ 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data quality roles β€’ Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field β€’ Experience with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica Axon, or Alation β€’ Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) β€’ Proven expertise in metadata management and data lineage practices β€’ Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with data modeling concepts β€’ Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) β€’ Experience working with cross-functional business and technical teams β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills β€’ Certification in data governance or data management (e.g., CDMP, Collibra Ranger) is a plus Skills β€’ Team Player - Able to collaborate effectively across departments β€’ Great Communicator - Clear and concise in both written and verbal communication β€’ Attention to Detail - Strong focus on accuracy and quality of data β€’ Analytical Thinking - Ability to assess data trends, identify gaps, and suggest improvements β€’ Problem Solving - Skilled in resolving data integrity and governance issues β€’ Stakeholder Management - Experience working with business and technical stakeholders β€’ Project Coordination - Ability to manage timelines, milestones, and deliverables β€’ Requirements Gathering - Able to capture and translate business needs into data governance requirements β€’ Technical Aptitude - Familiarity with SQL, data modeling, and metadata tools β€’ Adaptability - Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment Equal Opportunity Employer: Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or any other legally protected group status.
