Title: Data Modeler 1
Location: Spokane, WA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)
Pay Range: $52.25 - $55.48 per hour
The role of the Data Modeler is to gather and transform business and technical requirements into conceptual, logical and physical data models repositories. In addition, the position designs, implements and documents data architecture and data modeling solutions. This position requires demonstrated analyst experience using modeling languages, technical product life cycle concepts and requirements engineering, among other applied skills and knowledge.
Position Responsibilities:
• Perform logical data modeling, physical data modeling (including reverse engineering) using the Erwin Data Modeling tool.
• Perform logical data model design including normalization/denormalization referential integrity, data domains, primary and foreign key assignments and data element definitions.
• Verify that the physical data model design includes standard database object names, referential integrity, appropriate constraints, foreign key assignments and consistent/appropriate use of surrogate keys and demoralization.
• Negotiate priorities and resolve requirement conflicts among various stakeholders.
• Follow standards, procedures, and guidelines for abbreviations, acronyms, class words and naming standards and data model reviews.
• Analyze and translate business needs into long-term solution data models.
• Evaluate existing business systems.
• Work with a development team to create conceptual data models and data flows.
• Develop best practices for data coding to verify consistency within the system.
• Review modifications of existing systems for cross-compatibility.
• Implement management approved data strategies and develop physical data models.
• Update and optimize local and metadata models.
• Evaluate implemented data systems for variances, discrepancies and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and optimize data systems.
Position Requirements:
Education & Corresponding Experience
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer/Information Technology or a closely-related technical discipline is preferred:
• 1 year of experience is required with an applicable Bachelor's Degree.
• 3 years of experience is required with an applicable Associate's Degree.
• 5 years of experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
• Experience should include working with logical data models, not just physical/DBA experience .

• 1 year of experience directly supporting the development and maintenance of GE-Alstom e-terraHabitat hierarchical databases and displays, OR
• 2 years of experience directly supporting database modeling in a science/engineering organization.
Preferred Skills
Preferred Skills & Experience
• 1 year of hands-on experience working with hierarchical databases in GE-Alstom products to model power grid information for use in a control center environment.
• Experience conducting data modeling sessions with business users and technical staff, which includes conveying complex ideas both verbally and in written form.
• Experience using JIRA for work tracking.
• Knowledge of and understanding of database management system administration with regard to performance, configuration and denormalization.
• Experience leading efforts to verify system test data is loaded accurately and in timely manner.
• Knowledge of GE-Alstom e-terraHabitat databases and displays.
• Knowledge of NERC-CIP and FISMA requirements.
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio.
