The Midtown Group is seeking a Data Modeler for an exciting year long remote contract for one of our higher education clients!
Position Title: Data Modeler
Location Preference: Remote (Any Location but must work PST hours)
Start Date: June 15, 2025
Duration: 12 Months
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week
Availability: 8:00 AM β 5:00 PM PST
Overtime Requirement: None
Rate: $50 - $65 per hour DOE (negotiable)

β’ Position Summary:
The Data Modeler will play a key role in designing, developing, and documenting data models within a Microsoft Fabric-based data platform. This individual contributor role reports to the AMP Reporting Lead and collaborates closely with business analysts, data architects, engineers, and analysts to support enterprise-wide data initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data modeling principles and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, aligning with AMPβs mission to foster inclusive excellence across the university.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Modeling (80%)
β’ Translate enterprise requirements into scalable, effective data models.
β’ Develop robust data models to support Power BI reporting.
β’ Optimize model performance using best practices and tuning techniques.
β’ Ensure models meet critical business functionality and performance standards.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive development.
Data Standards & Documentation (20%)
β’ Implement data governance policies to ensure data quality, integrity, access control, and security within Microsoft Fabric.
β’ Maintain thorough documentation for all modeling and data work.
β’ Contribute to the standardization and advancement of enterprise data modeling practices.
Qualifications:
Required:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
β’ 2+ years of experience in data analytics, modeling, or architecture.
β’ Experience with Human Resources and Financial data.
β’ Proficiency in data modeling for transactional, operational, and analytical solutions (EDW, Data Lake).
β’ Strong background in Dimensional and Data Warehouse Modeling.
β’ Experience with data modeling tools.
β’ Familiarity with DBT and Airflow or similar data transformation tools.
β’ Proficient in SQL for data access and analysis.
β’ Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
β’ Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
β’ Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g., Azure/Fabric).
Preferred:
β’ Knowledge of Banner or Workday in a higher education context.
β’ Experience with data architecture implementation on Azure/Fabric.
β’ Certifications in Microsoft Fabric or related technologies.
