Role description
Optomi in partnership with a leading consulting firm, is seeking a Data Modeler to design and implement scalable, efficient data models in a Snowflake cloud environment. This role requires deep expertise in data modeling best practices, Snowflake architecture, and collaboration across technical and business teams to align models with enterprise data strategy.
Qualifications:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
β’ 5-7+ years of experience in data modeling, data architecture, or database design, preferably in a cloud data warehouse environment.
β’ Strong hands-on experience designing data models in Snowflake.
β’ Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with ETL/ELT design principles.
β’ Experience with dimensional modeling, data vault, or third normal form (3NF) structures.
β’ Strong understanding of data governance, data lineage, and metadata management.
β’ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
β’ Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, and technical teams to understand data needs.
β’ Analyze source systems, business processes, and reporting requirements.
β’ Conceptual Models: High-level diagrams showing major data entities and relationships, focusing on βwhatβ rather than βhow.β
β’ Logical Models: More detailed maps specifying entity attributes, relationships, keys, and business rulesβagnostic of any specific technology or database.
β’ Physical Models: Platform-specific blueprints (e.g., for Snowflake, SQL Server, Oracle) showing how data is physically stored, indexed, partitioned, and optimized for performance.
β’ Adopt and implement naming conventions, data dictionaries, and standards.
β’ Ensure consistent master data across the organization and standardize reference data.
β’ Work with database developers and architects to create tables, views, normalization, denormalization, and indexing strategies.
β’ Optimize the models to support query performance and scalability.
β’ Create and maintain up-to-date ERDs (Entity Relationship Diagrams), data flow diagrams, and documentation.
β’ Communicate models and best practices to developers, BI analysts, data scientists, and business users.
β’ Design models that support data security (e.g., access controls, masking sensitive data).
β’ Collaborate on policies for metadata management, lineage, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
β’ Review and refactor models as requirements evolve or as new technology is adopted.
β’ Champion best practices for model change management and version control.
