Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler with strong expertise in Power BI, data modeling best practices, and a solid background in the financial domain, particularly Capital Markets. The ideal candidate will design and optimize complex data models, enable advanced analytics, and partner closely with business stakeholders to deliver insights into trading, risk, portfolios, regulatory reporting, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Architecture
• Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for financial and capital markets datasets.
• Build efficient star/snowflake schemas, semantic models, and optimized data structures for reporting and analytics.
• Create scalable Power BI data models, optimizing for performance, incremental refresh, DAX efficiency, and query folding.
• Define data standards, metadata structures, and documentation for business and technical users.
Power BI Development
• Develop complex dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI Desktop & Power BI Service.
• Write optimized DAX measures, calculated columns, tabular models, and data transformations.
• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), deployment pipelines, governance best practices, and workspace management.
• Work closely with BI developers and analysts to ensure consistent KPIs and definitions across enterprise reporting.
Financial Domain Expertise
• Work with data related to equities, fixed income, derivatives, FX, market data, trading systems, risk data, P&L, and regulatory reporting.
• Understand trade lifecycle, valuation concepts, positions, exposures, reference data, and market data structures.
• Collaborate with financial controllers, risk teams, traders, and compliance stakeholders to understand data needs and processes.
Technical Skills
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (Desktop, DAX, Power Query, Dataflows, Service).
• Expertise in data modeling techniques, dimensional modeling, Kimball methodologies.
• Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL or equivalent) and relational database design.
• Familiarity with Capital Markets data (trades, orders, positions, risk, pricing, market data).
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure (preferred), Snowflake, or AWS Redshift.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT using tools like ADF, Databricks, SSIS, Synapse.
Domain Skills
• Strong understanding of banking, financial markets, asset management, trading systems, and risk management.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks: Basel, MiFID, DoddFrank, etc. (optional but preferred).
Professional Skills
• Strong communication skills able to translate complex data concepts to business stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work in agile teams, and deliver high-quality outputs.
• Problem-solving mindset with an analytical, detail-oriented approach.
