About The Role
This position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy delivering client and industry driven solutions through our 5 core specialist Practices; Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, IT Operations, Change & Transformation, and Risk, Regulation & Compliance.
FDM is seeking a Data Modeler located in Chicago to support a project in the mining and metals sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 12 months but may be extended.
This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 3 days per week.
Overview
Client is seeking a Data Modeler to support the design and delivery of scalable data solutions across its global platform landscape. This role will focus on building robust, business-aligned data models that enable analytics, AI, and enterprise reporting across key domains.
The successful candidate will work closely with data engineers, platform owners, and business stakeholders across regions (e.g., Chicago, Montreal, Singapore) within a modern cloud-based data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Design
β’ Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data platforms
β’ Translate business requirements into scalable data structures supporting analytics, reporting, and AI use cases
β’ Define data standards, naming conventions, and governance practices
Platform & Engineering Collaboration
β’ Partner with data engineers to implement models in:
β’ Azure Data Platform (Synapse, ADLS, Fabric)
β’ Databricks / Lakehouse architectures
β’ Support integration across systems such as SAP S/4 HANA and other operational platforms
β’ Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
Data Strategy & Governance
β’ Contribute to enterprise data architecture and modeling frameworks
β’ Ensure alignment with data governance, quality, and lineage standards
β’ Support metadata management and documentation
Stakeholder Engagement
β’ Collaborate with business stakeholders (finance, operations, supply chain) to:
β’ Capture requirements
β’ Drive clarity on KPI definitions and reporting needs
β’ Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
β’ Strong experience in data modeling
β’ Proficiency in:
β’ Dimensional modeling (Kimball) and/or Data Vault / normalized models
β’ Hands-on experience with:
β’ Azure data services (Synapse, Data Factory, Fabric preferred)
β’ Databricks / Spark-based environments
β’ SQL and data transformation pipelines
Enterprise Systems
β’ Experience integrating data from:
β’ SAP S/4 HANA (highly desirable)
β’ ERP or operational mining/industrial systems
Tools & Practices
β’ Data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, or similar)
β’ Understanding of:
β’ Data governance
β’ Data quality frameworks
β’ Metadata management
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
β’ Exposure to AI / Copilot-enabled analytics environments
β’ Experience with Palantir Foundry (nice to have, not required)
β’ Background in mining, energy, or heavy industry
β’ Experience working in global or distributed teams
