Role description
Title: Associate Director ( Data Modeling/ Data Modeler ) Location: Reston, VA Duration: 10+ Months Local or nearby given first preference. Job Description: Position Summary: Client is the nation’s premiere provider of medical exams and health assessments. We serve a wide range of government clients, including Veterans Benefits, the Department of Defense, and the Department of the Interior. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Director of Data Modeling to join the enterprise data services team. This leader will drive the design, development, and governance of enterprise data models to support operations, analytics, reporting, interoperability, and data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in data modeling with proven leadership skills to build a data modeling practice within Client. This individual will report to the Chief Data Officer and will be expect to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: • Lead the development and maintenance of conceptual and logical data models for enterprise data assets, in alignment with business requirements and industry standards. • Partner with business units, functional support units, data architects, data engineers, and data analysts to map business processes into reusable and documented data structures. • Define and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices across the Client data ecosystem. • Ensure data models support interoperability and compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA and HITRUST). • Collaborate with enterprise architects, platform developers, and analytics teams to incorporate common data models into their products. • Conduct impact analyses on proposed changes to existing data structures, for review by the data governance board. • Contribute to data governance processes by ensuring data definitions, lineage, and metadata are documented and consistent. • Manage and mentor a team of data modelers, providing guidance and professional development opportunities. • Stay current on emerging trends in data modeling, healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7, and OMOP), and advanced analytics. Minimum Requirements: • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field. • 7+ years of experience in data modeling with demonstrated expertise developing conceptual and logical models. • Strong experience with data modeling tools, such as ERWin or MagicDraw. • Proficiency in SQL and cloud-hosted data management platforms, such as RDS or Snowflake. • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metadata management practices. • Experience developing and leading teams. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate between business terminology and technical jargon. Preferred Requirements: • 10+ years of experience in data modeling with demonstrated expertise developing conceptual and logical models. • Experience in the healthcare industry, including familiarity with health IT systems for managing patient, provider, and clinical data. • AWS cloud certified data engineer, or similar credential • Familiarity with data interoperability tools, such as Mulesoft, and data catalogs, such as Collibra or Informatica. • Familiarity with adaptive data modeling approaches, such as FHIR or NIEM.
