Position Title: Data Scientist Consultant Location: Glen Allen, VA (Hybrid) Position Status: Contract-to-Hire Position Description: Seneca Resources is seeking a Data Scientist Consultant to drive high-impact analytics initiatives and deliver data-driven insights that shape strategic decisions across IT, Information Security, and Engineering teams. This senior-level role blends advanced statistical modeling and predictive analytics with consultative business partnership, enabling leadership to make confident, informed decisions. The ideal candidate is both a strategic advisor and hands-on data expert, capable of independently leading complex analytical projects, mentoring analysts, and developing forward-looking models that influence enterprise-level initiatives. Key Responsibilities: β€’ Partner with senior business and technical leaders to understand strategic initiatives and develop data science solutions that measure and drive business value. β€’ Design, build, and deploy predictive and prescriptive models that inform strategic planning, risk assessment, and performance optimization. β€’ Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and statistical modeling using tools such as Python, R, or SQL. β€’ Lead data visualization and reporting efforts through Power BI or Tableau, turning analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for executive audiences. β€’ Develop automated, scalable analytics workflows in collaboration with IT and engineering teams. β€’ Mentor junior data professionals, providing analytical and technical guidance. β€’ Translate analytical findings into practical business recommendations and present them effectively to non-technical stakeholders. β€’ Contribute to data governance and model validation processes to ensure analytical accuracy and reliability. Required Skills & Education: β€’ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline). β€’ 5+ years of experience in data science, statistical analysis, or advanced analytics roles supporting business or technical leadership. β€’ Proven experience building and deploying machine learning models (predictive, classification, regression, or clustering). β€’ Strong command of Python or R, including packages for modeling, data wrangling, and visualization (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy, ggplot). β€’ Proficiency in SQL and strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL, and relational databases. β€’ Advanced expertise with Power BI or Tableau, including DAX, data blending, and complex visual storytelling. β€’ Ability to explain complex models and analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, actionable way. β€’ Excellent problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently in fast-paced, evolving environments. Preferred Qualifications: β€’ Experience working with IT, Cybersecurity, or Engineering data sets or business units. β€’ Familiarity with cloud analytics environments (Azure ML, AWS Sagemaker, Databricks, etc.). β€’ Exposure to forecasting, simulation, and optimization methodologies. β€’ Strong business acumen and consulting mindset β€” able to balance technical depth with strategic influence.
