About the Role
We are looking for a sharp, proactive Data Scientist to help us strengthen our predictive modelling and SEM optimisation efforts. This is a part-time contractor role where you’ll apply your technical expertise to build and refine models that improve customer value prediction, conversion quality, and marketing ROI. You’ll work closely with the data and growth teams, focusing on practical model improvements and delivering actionable insights in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Model Development & Improvement:
• Build and improve predictive models (classification and regression) to estimate conversion probability, revenue potential (MRR/LTV), and churn risk. Focus on increasing precision and calibration.
• Data Exploration & Feature Engineering:
• Perform EDA to diagnose drift, refine features, and create new predictors from CRM, product usage, and marketing data.
• Evaluation & Experimentation:
• Implement precision-oriented evaluation frameworks (precision@k, calibration, economic error metrics such as over/underbid totals). Contribute to A/B test design and offline replay analysis.
• Data Handling:
• Write efficient SQL for large datasets; manage and transform data pipelines for modelling.
• Business Partnering:
• Translate complex modelling outputs into clear insights and recommendations for marketing, product, and growth stakeholders.
(Nice to have)
• Experience with SEM bidding strategies (CPA vs tROAS) and marketing attribution models.
• Prior work on customer lifecycle analysis or lead quality optimisation.
• Familiarity with experimentation frameworks in marketing contexts.
Requirements
• Strong degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or another numerate discipline.
• 3+ years of applied experience in data science, predictive modelling, or product analytics.
• Proven expertise in SQL and Python.
• Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, CatBoost).
• Demonstrated ability to improve model precision and calibration.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to adapt quickly and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
Contract Details
• Part-time: 20 hours per week (3 days)
• Day rate: £150 – £200
• Location: Remote (UK-based)
