Role description
Position Summary Contractor Hybrid (3X week onsite - Cupertino, CA; New York City, NY) Work you'll do As a Data Scientist Contractor, you will deliver end-to-end analytics and machine learning solutions that help stakeholders make faster, better decisions. You will work with large, complex datasets—cleaning and validating data, uncovering trends and drivers, building predictive models, and translating results into clear dashboards and stakeholder-ready insights. You’ll collaborate closely with project teams to define requirements and ensure outputs are accurate, scalable, and aligned to business outcomes. Key Responsibilities • Analyze complex datasets to extract meaningful insights and support data-driven decision-making. • Collect, process, and manage large datasets, ensuring they’re usable for analysis and modeling. • Identify trends, patterns, and drivers through statistical analysis and exploratory data analysis (EDA). • Develop, train, and deploy machine learning models/algorithms to solve defined business problems. • Build data visualizations, dashboards, and executive-ready reporting to clearly communicate findings. • Partner with cross-functional project teams to translate business needs into data requirements and analytical deliverables. • Perform data validation, QA, and integrity checks to ensure accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility of outputs. • Document methodologies and results so solutions are maintainable and auditable. Required Qualifications • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in an Analytics and Strategy role. • Strong business acumen and the ability to think strategically and operationally. • Be a self-starter, driven, accountable and a high-energy team player. • Proven experience being a thought partner to cross-functional business teams offering actionable data insights and recommendations. • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority. • Excellent communication skills—able to distill complex analysis into simple, compelling narratives. • Background in consulting or customer-facing, fast-paced analytical environment. • Expertise with SQL, R or Python and data visualization tools such as Tableau for full-stack data analysis, insight synthesis and presentation. • Knowledge of and experience in leveraging Applied Statistical/ML techniques. • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or Applied Social Sciences. Preferred Qualification • 15+ years of demonstrated experience in an Analytics and Strategy role, preferably in the payments/fintech domain. • Ability to understand ambiguous and complex problems and design and execute analytical approaches and turn analysis into clear and concise takeaways that drive action. • Track record of leading organization-wide strategic initiatives or transformative analytics projects. • Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or Applied Social Sciences. The expected pay range for this contract assignment is $ 85 - $90 per hour.  The exact pay rate will vary based on skills, experience, and location and will be determined by the third-party whose employees provide services to Deloitte.
