Role description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES: β€’ Able to work independently and develop new algorithms and signal processing workflows to analyze sensor data. β€’ Design, optimize and maintain data collection, storage and retrieval workflows as well as various interfaces to visualize complex datasets. β€’ Perform in-depth analysis of experimental data, providing insight and guidance for further experiments, as well as weekly reports/presentations. β€’ Apply creative thinking, analysis and good judgement to propose innovative solutions to technical problems, which may involve a range of diverse approaches and resolving conflicting issues. β€’ Continuously improves process and work methodologies by collaborating with other teams and analyzing current processes to identify potential improvements to workflow. β€’ Work closely with the Microbiology and Systems engineering teams on experimental design, planning and execution to achieve project goals within targeted timelines. β€’ Work closely with development partners to define software specifications as it pertains to processing and interpretation of sensor signals to ensure accurate analysis and algorithm implementation. β€’ Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to gain new insight and extend the capabilities of existing products/prototypes. β€’ Prepare and manage Test Protocols, Reports and lab notebooks. β€’ Interface directly with management team to communicate project status, identify project issues, forecast timelines and resources. β€’ Mentor other engineers and team members in various R&D activities and participate in recruitment. β€’ Support the design review and phase gate process to ensure that engineering deliverables are at the appropriate level to meet FDA/ISO requirements & standards. β€’ Works with internal/external partners as necessary to drive R&D forward. β€’ Assist in the preparation and review of patent applications. β€’ Identify and follow up on opportunities for learning and development to ensure skill set meets evolving requirements and stay at the forefront of relevant scientific and technology areas. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: β€’ Master’s or PhD degree in Applied Physics/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 3+ years of experience in medical devices or biosensors. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: β€’ Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams. β€’ Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong background in the development of electrochemical biosensors. β€’ Extensive knowledge and proven track record of biosensor design, biochemical assay experience and prototyping. β€’ Comfortable working with and seeking optimum solutions with other R&D engineers, as well as team members in Microbiology and Systems Engineering. β€’ Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design and traceability. β€’ Hands-on approach to problem solving. REQUIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS: β€’ Proficiency in Python required. β€’ Strong data analysis skills including statistical methods and algorithm design/optimization. β€’ Good written and oral communication skills, able to promote ideas by logical argument and capable of presenting the results of a project in a clear, effective manner. β€’ Instrument interface programming and electronic/measurement setup design. β€’ Biological assay skills (ELISA, PCR) and microbiology experience are preferred. PERSONAL TRAITS: β€’ Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems. β€’ Independent and able to handle several projects efficiently. β€’ Friendly, articulate and excited to work in a fun, small team environment. β€’ Excellent record-keeping skills required.
