Role description
Data Storytelling Designer We are seeking a highly creative and strategic Data Visualization Designer with a primary focus on designing visual storytelling in PowerPoint. This role will lead the development of compelling long-form reports, strategic frameworks, point-of-view documents, and thought leadership materials that translate research and data into clear, polished, and visually sophisticated narratives. The ideal candidate brings strong editorial instincts together with advanced presentation design skills, using data visualization, layouts, charts, diagrams, and modular visual systems to make complex ideas easier to understand and more impactful for internal and external audiences. This person will play a central role in shaping how insights are expressed, structured, and presented across a range of content formats. Type: W2 contract with potential for full-time Rate: $45-55/hr Location: NYC (3 days in office, 2 remote) Key Responsibilities β€’ Lead the design and execution of visually driven thought leadership materials in PowerPoint, including long-form reports, strategic frameworks, and POVs. β€’ Create compelling visual narratives that bring research findings and strategic insights to life through strong story flow, information hierarchy, and presentation structure. β€’ Develop and refine data visualizations, charts, diagrams, layouts, and modular design systems that support clarity, consistency, and audience engagement. β€’ Partner closely with researchers, strategists, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex information into visually sophisticated, presentation-ready content. β€’ Apply strong editorial judgment to determine what deserves emphasis and how content should be organized for maximum impact and usability. β€’ Ensure all visual and written materials align with brand standards and maintain a high level of polish across deliverables. β€’ Use modern design tools and AI-enabled workflows to accelerate concepting, visualization, and production while maintaining creative quality. β€’ Edit and refine supporting written content so that language and visuals work together seamlessly within presentations and thought leadership materials. β€’ Support the adaptation of materials across related formats and channels, including articles, case studies, and digital publishing as needed. What We’re Looking For β€’ 5+ years of experience in content, editorial, presentation design, or visual storytelling roles. β€’ Strong expertise in PowerPoint with the ability to build polished, executive-level presentations and long-form storytelling decks. β€’ Demonstrated experience creating data-driven visual narratives through charts, diagrams, frameworks, and presentation systems. β€’ Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas for business and external audiences. β€’ A strong eye for layout, pacing, visual hierarchy, and brand-consistent design. β€’ Comfort working with research-heavy, insight-based, and cross-functional content in a fast-paced environment. β€’ Experience with digital content, thought leadership, and modern creative or AI-assisted workflows is a plus.
